Audi Improves 16 Postions in Initial Quality
Audi of America, Inc. posted the greatest ranking improvement in initial quality in the results from J.D. Power and Associates’ 2008 industry-wide study, released June 4, 2008. Even as initial quality improved across the auto industry, Audi distinguished itself from the pack, jumping sixteen spots to #10 with 113 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). The Audi A6 ranked third in a tie in the Midsize Premium Car segment.

whatthe, great point, they shouldn't be proud at all. Great logic. There are only like 11 car companies as well, right?

Audi is taking all of the steps necessary to become a force on par with BMW and Mercedes in the European luxury arena. They have exquisite styling, interior ambiance, and are shedding their image of making cars with alot of problems. If they can develop "magic feel" they will truly be a force to be reckoned with, and may be anyway.

Not so fast, aarononymous. J.D. Powers evaluates each MAKE of automobile, not the corporate parent. For instance, Powers evaluates Ford, Mercury and Lincoln separately, even though they are all Ford products. There are 43 different automobile marques on sale in the U.S. And I can think of at least 13 car makes NOT sold in the U.S. - FIAT, Alfa-Romeo, Lancia, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, SEAT, Skoda, Opel, Vauxhall, Ford Europe, Holden and Tata. So coming in 10th overall is quite an accomplishment. The ratings of the A8 (#1) and A6 (#3) in their respective segments are also impressive.

Way to go, Audi!

If you are a "premium" car company, you should be top 3, or at least have a chance at it.
Thats the problem with "luxury" brands, most don't measure up to there price.

Audiphile, sarcasm. Nobody is going from last to first overnight (not that Audi was last or anything). Of course they should be proud.

whatthe - initial quality is hard in a lux brand like Audi because if you met the typical Audi driver they are picky as hell.

Usually companies like Lincon or Lexus are on the top because their avarage customer is 102 years old and don't remember if they haveproblems with their cars

Does this means Mercedes will drop to? Because they took on a big improvement also along with some American Automakers...

they really need to work on dealer satisfaction, everywhere in MA is subpar at best. Getting them to honor warranty work can be painful at times IMHO.

c'mon chewy, everyone (i.e. amazinBimmer ONLY)knows that an Audi is really a VW, and as you can see from the list they are ranked lower than BMW, so in reality (amazinBimmer's alternate universe)BMW ranks HIGHER than Audi...I mean VW.

Did I miss anything amazinBimmer?

it doesnt idiot.

stupid surveys.. make toyota high on the list.. cant mask fwd platforms, inferior technology and really bad vehicle dynamics coupled with reaaaaally bad residuals.. but keep trying.. wait.. maybe they can make the RS models.. limited?... hahahah

So the BMW owners who had less problems were confused and thought they brought their cars in for service more often??? Is that what happened?

Star you must have multiple accounts because what you are saying is utter nonsense. Why hasn't my 99 323i fell apart? what about my 86 325es with just over 400,000 miles on it? what about my 85 745i turbo? I don't think BMW is the most reliable car comany out there, but they have some of the most durable longest lasting engines especially the long lived 3.2/3.4l big 6 and the old 2.7l eta engine is practically bulletproof, has great torque and great fuel economy.

85bmw745i,
With one glaring exception...the 2000 323i automatic had catastrophic transmission failures starting at 40,000 miles. It was a GM French transmission and BMW did nothing for the customer about these trans. I sadly sold mine before it self-destructed.
I know, I never should have bought an automatic over the manual - that's what I've been told a thousand times.
I wish I still had the car, bought a Lexus IS250, not as sporty as the BMW but a pretty good car, nevertheless.
