German car maker Audi AG (NSU.XE), the luxury car unit of Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE), said Thursday global July car sales increased 13% from a year earlier, boosted by a strong demand in the United States.

MAIN FACTS:

-Global sales in July amounted to 119,600 cars, lower than 133,050 cars in June 2012.

-July sales in the US jumped 28% to 11,707 cars, with strong demand for A4 and A5 models.

-In Germany, July sales rose 11% to 23,712 cars, mainly due to the popularity of the A1 Sportback, A6 Avant and Q3 models.

-In China and Hong Kong July sales were up 18% to 32,877 cars.

-In the January to July period, global sales rose 12% on the year to 852,900 cars.

-The new Audi A3, to be launched at the end of August, is expected to boost sales in the coming months, Audi Chief Executive Officer Rupert Stadler said.
