Audi May Break Out The Brass Knuckles With New Supercar And Mini SUV
Audi is considering a small sport/utility vehicle and another supercar as potential additions to its U.S. lineup, a top official said Monday.

Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president of Audi of America, called the small SUV a "lifestyle" product, similar to Toyota's RAV4. The vehicle would be slotted below the Q5, which goes on sale in the United States early next year.

"I think that would be a market segment that would be very interesting," de Nysschen said in a wide-ranging interview.

I really hope they make the R4...as long as they do it right too! It def needs to weigh less than the TT.

The TT is already the lightest car they have. Except maybe the base A3 models.

And with the rumours about the price, I think people need to find a more affordable supercar.

This will be more like a Porsche Cayman S or Lotus Elise than a hi-po supercar.

BMW lost far more than Audi did this month.

That mini-SUV is going to be a rebadged VW Tiguan. Totally uninteresting. On the other hand that supercar sounds promising...if the price is right.

Just like Lexus does?

Actually under the skin a Lexus is 90% a Toyota for sister models.

The Audi's typically differ by quite a bit. For instance the TT is primarily aluminum under the skin, where the Golf is steel. On the Lexus it is the same.

Hmmm...That may be why Lexus makes more per car?

Actually MichaelTaylor this is not what I meant. I think the VW Tiguan is a great car for the money. The Audi version of the same car is not worth IMO.

You don't even know that it is going to be based on the Tiguan. I'm going out on a limb and saying it will not have anything to do with it. I'm certain it will be based off of a shortened B8 A4 platform.

StarStar - 6/3/2008 6:24:58 PM

I sure hope is not based on the Tiguan simply because that will make the Audi a bad buy. If Audi comes up with something original has a good shot at the title in this segment considering that the competition is poor.

How about create a car that can compete with the IS350/G37 and 335? Instead of creating another supercar.

I'm sorry but it's obvious that Audi is a confused company.

Well they obviously aren't confused with how to make a proper super car.

Their A4 buyers seem to be happy and for those who want the extra umph there are the S/RS models to choose from.

However, I dont think they need another super car but maybe a bigger coupe based on the A5 or A8 that could take on a MB CL.

why does the VW group insist on making products that compete with each other

amazinidiot....the A4 and A5 derived VWs ? what planet are you from? a completely new chassis, class leading interiors (not my words, the motoring industry), and many pundits would also say class leading exteriors, with about as much in common with a VW as a BMW. Plus a great percentage of US supplied cars are Quattro. Notice how every other premium maker has jumped on the 4x4 bandwagon, BMW included because Audi are so successful with this.

It is likely the the Q3 will based off the new A3 and not the Tiguan. You guys like amazingidiot make up stuff to pass it off as if it were fact. You have absolutely no clue what you are saying. You are a total moron amazing fool and larry the jester. Get a clue already no one is listening to you.

Remember folks, the Mini SUV will NOT be called the Q3 due to the Infiniti-Factor, my theory is A3 Allroad or the Allroad3

The supercar will probably be either a TT sized sports car that the TT-RS mules are hiding, or a MB SL/BMW 6-series fighter.

My theory thats all.
