Audi Opens Hong Kong's Largest showroom
Audi opens exclusive showroom on area of around 1,000 m²

Unveiling of Audi S8

Success story continued on the Chinese market

The Audi importer “Premium Motor Ltd.” has opened the largest car showroom in Hong Kong with a formal gala. Audi is implementing its new showroom concept on an area of around 1,000 square metres, thus underscoring its premium credentials. “The exclusive showroom marks a further milestone in the Audi company’s success story in China, combining unique design with ultra-modern cars made by Audi and simultaneously strengthening the image of the Ingolstadt brand in Hong Kong,” explained Ralph Weyler, Board Member for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG, who had travelled to Hong Kong to host the opening ceremony.

With the opening of the new showroom, Audi is further expanding its presence on the Chinese market. Vehicle sales have been increasing at a double-digit percentage rate for a decade. In the first nine months of this year alone, vehicle sales in China and Hong Kong went up to 60,467 (584 of which in Hong Kong) compared with 36,658 for the same period last year. This represents an increase of 64.9 percent.

Highlights of the opening ceremony apart from the unveiling of the Audi S8 were the appearance of the world-famous harpist Jung Kwak and a charity campaign in aid of the “Audi Driving Dreams” project. Audi Driving Dreams is a partnership between UNICEF and Audi China and supports street children in impoverished regions of West China.

disagree with you EL34.

I don't believe it will be a smash. Majority of HK citizens are not focused on cars w/demonic speed and cornering. HK streets are so damn congisted that most people or vacationers alike rather walk to get from point A to B.
====which comes to my second part of criticism for VW/Audi.

I'm already beginning to see a mistake Germans are making and it parallels with what the U.S. has done almost exactly in the past that has cost them the competitive edge to be sunk to the bottom.

Simplified example:
American phone Company named Motorola was a very competitive and played dominant role once on the Cellular phones. It was an high achiver no doubt.

Motorola eventually gained high interest to sell their cellular phones in Japan and Korea. They obviously witnessed a potential. Mistake #1: Sure there were great potential that Motorola would sell, however, it was a market place (Japan) where electronics are practically everywhere and miniturization was also more advanced than that of a Motorola any cell-phones. The sales were decent at first but within short period..the sale dropped off from actually making a profit to a losing a profit. How could this happened? They tried to figure it out...The answer was this: 1) The product was based on the American market but not the Japanese or Koreans. 2) Their cellphone explosion occured with Sanyo about to make a gigantic splash in Japan - Samsung samething in Korea.

The lesson here is this. Don't try to impress certain market places with light strobes and dancers. Especially in the Asian Market. Instead, be humble and build a product for the Asians. Change the Name from German to Chinese. Become Chinese if you are going to sell a product to 1.3 billion Chinese. This Audi will make a splash but it isn't designed for Chinese. This is where German AGs keeps on falling short. They have decent marketing in China but still are building what the Germans people desire. Rather it should be what Chinese people desire or expect in a decent car. Which comes to my conclusion....Believe me..in HK or many other parts of China, Korea or Japan, most German cars are still havent adopted to their catering. Something they will have to be forced to learn. Remember VW AG's major profit (70% - ?)comes from the Chinese market, currently! But much like the story of American trying to sell U.S. built Motorola cell phones in Jpan and korea..it may sell for awhile but unless they are prepared to face a stiff competition in the very near future..expect your market will be doomed eventually in a short time because your competitor will tear you apart just like Motorola cellphones attempt to market in Japan and Korea which btw, didn't last too long. Could something like this happen to German companies currently selling in China? I think so and I truely believe at the current time..German Car company will lose out major market stardom in China to much better equipped competitors..c

MDalle surely nicehomer doesn't know what he's talking about.
For the germans, China is the fastest growing market and they rule the premium segments.

"Hmm... They might be if you include China, but in Hong Kong you don't see that many Audis (compared to BMW's and especially MB's)!"

Nice. Hong Kong is in China, ignoramous.

Why brush off the entire country? It's just fact. If Audi sells about four times as well as BMW there, so be it!

So exactly where in HK will be? HK island?

As for the Q7, I don't see that doing well at all. I have seen very few SUVs there.

Current over population of Neanderthals and Homo electus is having a squable over a banana planation which will cause lots of problems in Beijing for next Olympic Game. I also heard theirs King KOngs and Godzillas and giant Mothera dueling out in Tokyo.
