Audi Posts A 6.9% Decline In February Sales

Audi of America, Inc. announced today sales for the month of February totaling 6,152, a decrease of 6.9% from last year’s figures. Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales continued their record-setting trend; compared with last year’s February figures, CPO sales came to 3,021 units, an increase of 57%.

The combination of cold weather and cold economic reports slowed customer purchases in the early days of the month, but dealers reported increased traffic as the month progressed. Growing TT sales – an increase of 52.8% vehicles sold over last year’s figures – and record-breaking CPO sales indicate that consumers looking for strong, “shockingly delightful” design have Audi on their minds.

“In spite of February’s slow start, customers are, in fact, shopping. I believe that American auto buyers are looking for stand-out design and quality engineering – they’re ready for spring and are ready to purchase. I look forward to taking the momentum of the last week into March,” said Johan de Nysschen, Executive Vice President, Audi of America.

To date, Audi has sold 12,570 vehicles in 2008, a 3.4% decrease over the previous year; CPO sales for 2008 total 5,613, an increase of 48% over 2007.

Had it not been for New TT or the A5, Audi would be alot further down than 6%. If you look at the A3, A4, A6, A8 & Q7, then they are down 16% .... A long way to go to catch up to BMW, Mercedes & Lexus in the US.

Who cares, as long as they increase in world sales? The US is not lucrative at this point.

BTW... BMW dropped almost exactly the same amount--and considering how BMW sells more cars, they lost more sales of vehicles in February than Audi.

Audi already warned lat year that this year would be down -mainly because the new A4 using the new MLP platform won't be rolling out until the Fall 2008. So it makes sense that people are holding off buying their best-selling A4 until the new model makes its debut. Also Audi has dropped the ball with not revealing the new Q5 SUV. There are quite a few buyers that are putting off buying any Audi until this new model is publicly presented and shipping dates are announced.

The problem is MB and BMW are going to take a huge hit profit wise because of the US exchange rate. Soon every German car will be build here. So much for orginality.

I think that when they refresh the A6 and A8 it should help slow the bleeding however I dont know when they are doing any of that yet.

What are you talking about? They sold ~95K here in 2007.

I think that Audi will continue to be down marginally because of the anticipation of the new A4. I can see the big increase that Audi is going to have Jan09 v. Jan08, Feb09 v. Feb08, etc...

Sales still up by 3.4% overall as expected at the start of the year. The CPO sales though are booming. This I think will be a trend for most luxury premium carmakers in this uncertain economic times. If the new A4 was available Audi sales would be increased as MB is enjoying the increase solely on the back of the new C-Class. The new A5 and the 1-Series all going to be released this month should increase sales overall. More people are going to used luxury cars as evidenced by increased CPO sales for most premium brands.

Bring on the diesels before gas hits $4.00 per gallon, though our president says he was not aware of that.

Gas prices would explain the Q7 but makes you wonder if they're relying too much on it.

A4 has been flat for the last few months. The new A4 needs to get here soon.

Flat yes, but still very strong considering it is on its last months. That is a testament to a great product.

The "new" A4 will help Audi with it's struggling sales- it's the only model that really brings them the sales numbers.

how come the new audi commercials aren't helping audi with its sales in the US?

it must mean that millions of dollars audi spent on its super bowl commercials are wasted to say the least.

speaking of the new audi commercials, i liked the a5 one the best. "after you get your first job, you'll be getting one of these cars - mb, bmw, lexus. your kids will go to one of these schools - exeter, andover, choate...," etc. in the end, it basically says "break the mold and choose audi - the least desired luxury brand in america!"

fastone, viso, and nut, if he were still alive. change your aspiration to being number 1 by 2015 to being third by 2050. crappy products and poor engineering will get you there and no further...what a joke.. sold 90k cars here last year... and no mini or smart-like brand.. u are not gaining but falling further behind... wait... i know.. use fwd archtecture on all your cars... yes, thats the ticket....hahaha. a fwd a8? yes.. lovely...

...because the US is the only country in the world that matters, everywhere else is a 3rd world nation, sure. Audi is actually increasing worldwide sales, you're just mad because the BMW badge whores haven't spread their seed overseas. Driving a 3-series doesn't make you rich or smart...as evidenced by your posts.

I have been following this site for about a year now and just joined recently and to be honest I really didnt think that fan boys were that bad until i continue to read feedbacks like this. I have loved cars my whole life, all of them because I just like to drive. Some I do think are garbage and are from a higher power however i have never just trashed a car company. Yes I think Honda's are boring and S classes to complex, however driven them, especially the S class are very very nice and do their job. Would I buy one? Probably not I'd rather have an 01 7 series or 93 Q45. Would I drive one a daily basis? Yep. Of course as soon as I can get My Lambo off Layway at Walmart I will be driving that one.

The A4 might be hit in the US if Audi has something better to offer than the 2.0T and the 3.2 V-6. Without new engines A4 sales will be low. Not enough people care about AWD to make Audi a real player, those of us who live in warmer climates do not want the complexity or extra weight of AWD. The BMW 3 series outsold ALL of Audi in the US by almost 50K vehicles last year so to dismiss BMW or Mercedes would be a mistake. Audi needs better engines to become competitive in the US. Audi has been pushing Quattro a long time and so has Subaru with questionable results. Worldwide Audi primarily sells FWD cars, for me it is hard to see how Audi really becomes a player in the US where Audi outsells only lowly Jaguar.

Yes, the A3 is actually great you moron. And alot of consumers seem to agree as the 1-Series has never touched the sales of the A3 in Europe. So, I guess there are alot of morons out their driving the iconic A3, S3. Can you please ban this twad already autospies. Your bias towards certain posters is showing.

The A5 commercials just hit the airwaves recently. The reason they have not impacted sales much yet is because of lack of inventory. Each dealer only recieved a few at lauch time so once those are sold it takes months to have any to sell again.
