Audi R8: Comparison Against Corvette Z06 and Dodge Viper SRT-10
Although we believe that this comparison really doesn't fit (a true supersportscar against such muscle cars?), it's actually a very interesting read with great pictures and even 10 videos.

Read the Google-translated Audi R8, Corvette and Viper comparison here.

lmao at the true sports car, compared to muscle car comment....this test doesnt make sense because audi is trying to tout the r8 as a gt, the vette, and the viper are true sports cars....

Precisely. That Audi is very nice and very alluring (I'm taking a hard look at it myself), but its no "super" sportscar and it does not claim to be. Its more of a space-aged tuned GT that is meant to showcase Audi's technical side in the sportscar market rather than pure performance. (Now if the A8 gets that twin-turbo version of the Gallardo V-10 engine producing the once speculated 610 BHP, then we'll talk about supercar status.)

The Z06 is not a musclecar, but in fact a true sportscar and its performance would simply hammer that Audi silly.

Interestingly, Winding Road did their recent article on that Audi using a Z06 to film every angle (knowing the Z06 would be there waiting at its every move). :)

Every time I put my ass down into a Corvette I feel great when I hear that engine starting and revving up, but just a few seconds later I feel so disappointed I couldn't tell you .. Why? Because I really like the outside look of the vette (not so much of the viper, my opinion), I like the fact it goes fast, it's a nice ride for a track day; and I was thinking to buy it; but after few seconds of thinking... I hate the interior. My cell phone has a better screen resolution that the Vette's Navigation. No kidding. At least it feels that way. And by jumping from an Audi to the Corvette the interior looks not just plain, but also ugly. Also the suspension is so stiff it's hard to drive around for too long. And where I live
I get a real winter for 3 months of the year and a decent amount of rain, the vette won't fit, not on those days at least. And because I got a glitch in my head that my cars have to be able to go on the streets any single day of the year.. I have to discard the Vette. And for this reason also the Viper and any other (extreme) muscle car than can't handle the weather, not even the rain. I know a few other guys (owning corvettes) saying the same thing: "can't drive it today, it's raining". I was laughing hearing that, but later I figure it out it's real.

That's pretty much what most Ferrari owners keeping saying, but, because its a Ferrari, the emotion always passes.

Ferrari (and some others) have had some pretty 'plain-Jane' interiors over the years and no one complains. In fact, these Euro cars are seen as 'more prestigious' while Corvette is regarded as lower grade for doing the same thing (enhancing performance while being conservative on interior appointments).

All pretty much stereotypes and perceptional. So if you "really like the outside look of the vette" then, like the Ferrari guys, you must decide whether this is enough. As far as the ride is concerned, as I indicated to another below, Audi might be your car as amongst other things, they seem to really like the Delphi magnetic shock system they learned about from Corvette (which has been on Cadillac and Corvette for many years) but Audi (and Ferrari) are now showing off in their cars.

And that "can't drive in the rain" thing would be laughed at far more by the myriads of Corvette people than you and "your friend" ever would. Its all about tires and traction control and Z06 has plenty of goods for that. (If you want a snow car, yeah maybe you should stay with an all-wheel drive Audi; in either case, the A8 would be an expensive snowmobile.) :)

The R8... there aren't many words to describe it.

So beautiful, so classy, so athletic, so stunning, so curvy, so powerful, so intimidating, so fabulous...

And it jus tmakes the others look so OLD. The R8 is the GT of 2007 and beyond, and I don't see any other overthrowing it.

Philosophically, I'd say its closest competitor is either the DB9 or V8 Vantage, and because the latter is closer in price, it's the AMV8 that we'll see in a comparison test sometime soon.

AND, the interior color they chose is stunning. It looks much richer there than it does in stock photos.

I could just go on and on about the R8, couldn't I?

Hmm, we'll let's see, perhaps they were looking to compare the A8's new optional "Magneride dampers" that its shares with its TT and the new state-of-the-art Ferrari 599 GTB THAT IT INCORPORATED INTO THEIR CARS FROM DELPHI WHICH THEY LEARNED FROM GM - CORVETTE IN PARTICULAR!!!!!

GM has has those magnetic shocks in Corvettes for years (since 2003!) while Audi, Ferrari and others have just caught on and are now putting them on their "German" cars so that people like YOU can be fooled into thinking that this was another masterful German invention and make you feel special...

I would like to see photos of an R8 without the two-tone body colors. Anybody have some?
