Audi R8 Test Drive Gone Bad
A 33-year-old man from The Netherlands took the brand-new Audi R8 for a test drive near the town of Woerdense Verlaat. According to some reports, he was doing 130 km/h or 80 mph on a 50 mph limit road, though other reports say that he might have been going as fast as 200 km/h or 125 mph. The fact is that he suddenly lost control of the 420HP mid-engined supercar and ditched it into a river bank.

Luckily, no one got hurt but the Audi R8 that costs a staggering €157,630 or $232,500 in The Netherlands is considered a total loss. According to the Dutch police, the accident may have been caused by a bump on the road at the point where the driver of the R8 lost control of the vehicle

They are going to drive up the insurance cost even more on these cars if I were to decide to purchase one!

Because we're creating more an more advanced cars capable of pushing the limits of driving and then handing them over to people who have money, and enthusiasm, but no training.

so many? This is the second time I've heard of, both seem like cases of going way to fast. I wouldn't compare it to the Carerra GT deathtrap yet.

I think there have been 4, 2 A8's and 2 or 3 GTR's. I was thinking they should offer training prior to allowing ppl to drive off the lot with it.

this was good thinking by the driver. car catches on fire put it out by driving it into a nearby ditch full of water.

It amazes me with the sure footing of the AWD of this car why it's fairly easy to lose control like this, this is almost Porsche territory.

Don't blame the car, Blame the driver! All accidents are not created equal.

AWD vehicles still have to adhere to the laws of physics. This driver pushed beyond that limit. Any vehiles will get crashed if an idiot with no skill is behind the wheel acting like he has skills.

Well, one of my friends 1995 VW Golf kept up with a Bugatti on some backroads. And he can drive and I've seen him do it so I can believe that. I swear that this site has more idiot's per capita than any other site on the web.

Clearly MT is taking a stab at comedy. A Joke like this one deserves +50 boost.

I appreciate your attempt at humor. I have a friend who drives a 2007 Dodge Viper SRT-10. I have to listen to him all the time about how his car is faster than my M3. I joke with him, because I am the better driver, that we could race with me in the M3 and him in the Viper and I would win.

I then tell him we could swap cars and race again, and again I would win.

Most of the time a good driver can go faster in a slower car than a bad driver in a faster car.

I like the humor in place of some of the kool-aid induced comments you normally make, you know the ones, "...a Lexus LS600h is faster than an R8 and Jeremy Clarkson said that the cup holders on the SC430 are higher quality than those in a BMW 750iL so therefore the ES350 is the superior luxury car to the MB S550 making the RX350 the best SUV ever, especially in front wheel drive only, because it beats the Range Rover in a rolling start acceleration test..."

You get the idea, a little stab at some humor of my own.

Some people just have too much money to throw away. He would've been better off giving the money spent on this car to charity than driving it briefly into a swamp.

Even the best performing car can't overcome a person's unfamiliarity with the car, or their stupidity for that matter.

When you check out the pictures in the article, you see there are skid marks for a long distance that to across the road over a grass verge over the 2 way cycle path and on into the canal. I would like to hear the view of an expert on traffic accidents, maybe he way avioding a rabbit? looks like a freak sort of accident, but VERY Expensive.
