Audi R8 V10 Confirmed
Here are some photos of what appears to be a regular Audi R8 on the outside. However, the all LED headlights give it away that this is not a regular R8, as they are not available options just yet. Under the clear engine cover, the V10 hides. The R8 is expected to receive a V10 engine similar to the one in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

I'm pretty sure the V10 is a FSI Gasoline direct injection high revving unit. Not to be confused with the V12 TDI turbodiesel unit in the R8 V12 TDI concept car.

I'm pretty sure the LF-A will price itself out of the market but be outperformed by the R8 V10 and its competition.

Besides making it faster, more fun, more exotic, better to live with and less expensive?

Hm.

I got my first real good look at an R8 on the road a couple weeks ago. It is worth noting that there is almost always an Aston V8 Vantage in my neighborhood because the owner of a hair salon has one. The day I saw the R8, I was also getting a haircut, and parked in front was the V8 Vantage coupe. It didn't look half as good. Sorry. I love Astons too but the R8 puts, at the very least, the V8 V to shame.

If not the DB9. It's faster than that, too... and you'd be surprised at how beautiful it really is.

there isn't a car in automotive history that can (stylistically) put the v8 vantage to shame. it's perfect. i know of 1 or 2 ferraris that come close, but thats about it.

the r8 has its advantages, for sure. but not in the looks department.

Once again, have you seen it? I don't think so.

Well, like I said, I saw both in the same day. While the Vantage has a beautiful shape, it was simply unexciting to look at after the R8. It looked bland. I wouldn't be able to justify buying it.

I like that VW has so many brands to spread its powertrain options. Great V6s, V8s, V10s, V12s that come in petrol and diesel guises.

You'd think GM would have this type of engine diversity amoung its many brands too...with a couple of V10 & V12 engine variations sitting around for Cadillac and an exclusive (ultra-low volume) luxury brand (ie. Cunningham).

People talk about the 'misses' that VW has had with the Passat W8 & Phaeton, but VW holds some of the most interesting brands to date.

Why can't Audi build a car that actually performs that cost $45k or less? TT not included.

It seems like with Audi you have to spend serious coin to get any performance

lex you are correct. the problem with audi is that the company as a whole thinks their products cant be compared to. I went to them last week for an s5 they said you can order it and get it in 6 months if you want. I said can you drive it first they said no people know what they are getting. lol i said whats the lease they said you cant lease it. i said whats the price they said 59k loaded i said bmw 335xi 8k cheaper same performance whats wrong with this picture?

They should put this engine in the Audi A8L.

That would be a BWM killer fore sure.

markanthony,
Couldn't agree with you more! By the time that Lexus finally puts the LF-A into production, it won't be as exciting and will most likely be outperformed by whatever is the next best thing...

Cool. Thanks. I will look at the Audi site. I guess I knew they had a W-10.

If they could build these at a US Plant, perhaps they might be more affordable.
