Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans zooms into Geneva with 500hp and 0-62 in 4.2 seconds
Audi seems to be dropping its V12 TDI engine in as many concept cars as it can, with only one model, the Audi Q7 V12 TDI, making it into production. Along with the production Q7 V12 TDI, the Q7 Coastline Concept, and the R8 V12 TDI seen in Detroit, the German automaker will be presenting the new Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans Concept at the Geneva Motor Show this week.

Power comes from the very famous 6.0 liter V12 TDI engine that produces 500hp and an outstanding peak torque of 738 lb-ft. That gives the R8 V12 TDI Le Mans the ability to do 0-62mph in...

I hope NOT. The normal R8 looks ten time better than this one... It looks Way too busy in the front, it looses its finese.

It's a DIESEL. That's the point. They could EASILY get what Nissan gets out of a six-cylinder engine, but they choose not to.

The performance is the same as the V8. What's the point? Oh it gets 20 mpg. A corvette gets close to 30 on the highway. Save yourself a few hundred grand and keep the diesels in european econocars from now on.

No, it isn't.

Audi quotes the 0-60 time for the V8 at 4.6 sec.

It has been recorded at 3.9 sec.

One can easily deduce that the R8 TDI should accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.5 sec on a good day.

"keep the diesels in Europe"

Yeah, and let them be the only ones to get cars that get over 70 mpg and 100% alternative-fuel capable, like the VW Polo BlueMotion that comes in at 72 mpg and less CO2 output than a Prius, while also being able to accept any blend of biodiesel, renewable diesel, and/or green diesel bio-fuel without modification and without loss in fuel economy as is seen with gasoline alternatives for gas guzzlers.

Oh! [sarcasm]

I didn't realize Nissan had designed a 3.5 V-6 gasser with 738 lbs of torque.

That must be a new record of peak torque for a weasley gasser, and at under 2000 RPM. Boy that is really good! They must have figured out how to make a gas-guzzler perform like a superior diesel! Good for Nissan, but why would they still be building diesels for Europe if they had these measly gas guzzlers figured out! Oh yeah. I forgot. The diesels still get 30-40 percent better fuel economy.
