Audi R8 vs Chevrolet Corvette LS3 - Who Will Win The Shootout?
Which is better?  The ultra expensive and exclusive Audi R8, or Chevrolet's garden variety, bargain basement priced LS3 Corvette?

Our good friends over at WebRidesTv.com's asked the question and luckily for us put it to the test. They conducted their own "Super Lap" pitting the 2008 Corvette LS3 against a 2008 Audi R8 and the results are interesting to say the least.

Take a look at the the video and tell us at almost half the price and a similar 0-60 time, did the 'Vette hold its own against the Audi?

As an european, I vote fore Corvettte. Before watching video. Thing is, it is faster than r8. But I would prefer having r8. For various reasons.
Quattro is of course nice, but in perfect weather conditions it does not show its true positive side.

The driver seems to be an amateur. What slow gear change!

ok, after watching the video, as an european, I belive that its a totally wrong output. R8 has not been designed to be as sharp sports car as a vette and overall it is know that in majority of testing, vette should be faster. Of course r8 probably feels more exclusive, but this is just bullshit. Either complete idiots testing or totally corrupted show.

I do not have any love for american cars (I actually believe they are on pair with koreans when it comes to overall likeness from my side), but Vette is a sportier car. And sport performance is what this test is all about.

Sorry americans, but this show it just too pro european.

stop saying "as a european" it doesnt make you any special from the rest of the world

i was surprised buy the outcome though. i thought the vette's raw power would win over but R8's far superior handling and braking definitely made an impact enough to win. props to both cars

Actually it does. The European nations are a lot stronger than the United States now, in terms of economy, society, and everything. Seriously, look what we have. Other than a strong military power and Hollywood, what do we have? Nothing. Totally nothing.
We all know that the Japanese make great stuff, and the Europeans know what luxury really is.

Corvette is nothing more than a Ferrari wannabe car. Only the Bush lovers would drive that junk.

Actually, it doesn't. Do you live in Europe? I have. Other than economy, which is cyclical, nothing the Euros do impresses me so much that I'm on my knees bowing toward Paris.
Okay, except the M3...
Still, the simple fact that you made Hollywood an American asset made your post ridiculous. Hollywood is a major reason many Americans feel the way you do. Every Euro character is "cultured" in a way they never depict Americans as. The reality in Europe, however, is soccer fans.
When American sports fans start doing the stuff the Euro soccer morons do, then I will agree with you.

MT aka Troll,

There's a reason why Lexus is discontinuing the SC430. It's ugly, not up to par, rubbish interior, lame excuse to wear a Lexus badge (Toyota Soarer).

It's not in any league near an R8 or LS3 in performance. In luxury where it's supposed to be it's not even close to an SL(benchmark) or 6 series.

lol at MT that was actually funny. But in all seriousness that sucks for the r8, what would happen if they tested a z06 agianst the r8...the r8 would gets smoked like no joke. But if I had the money and could afford any of these rides I would take an r8 cus it looks sooooo gooooood.

The V10 will take the Z06 on the track. No questions asked. The V10, according to a source at Quattro GmbH said that Audi's DTM driver put down a 7:39.

Yes and the ZR1 put down a 7:26...

the ZR1 cheated with racing fuel... its a bunch of BS

Re this comparo, the driving dynamics of the Audi prevailed, as well as its AWD traction off the line and arounf corners. The vette as usual only performs in a straight line and can only beat an AWD R8 on top speed.

Source? GM said otherwise.

Yes the ZR1 is very fast when it's driven by test drivers and professionals. I'd be willing to bet that if you gave an average driver both cars, he'd be faster on a track in the R8 simply because it's easier to drive. Chances are he'd be faster than most cars, Zonda and CGT included, simply because they are so difficult to drive. You'll reach the limits of the R8 and keep it in bounds, but if you ever get near the limits of something like the ZR1 or CGT, you'll end up in a wall.

RWD, very high power, light cars aren't the easiest thing in the world to drive fast. Bring your ZR1 to a track that isn't an oval or a drag strip, and I'll bring my R8. We'll see who's faster, let alone will even finish.

The R8 not only looks good, I can fit in it - I'm too tall for the Vette. Oy!

Even though the R8 proved to be more stylish, better-built, and a better all-around performer (losing out to the Corvette only in straight-line acceleration), the Corvette wins the bang-for-the-buck contest hands down.

Moral of story, gentle bloggers? If you can afford it, get the R8. If you are strapped for cash (and not very tall), get the Vette.

not that i have driven either one of these cars, and I dought that many of us have, this is not really a fair comparison( ie front engine rear drive vs mid engine 4wd ). Most who have driven both put the R8 on top, even when the comparison is not based purely on lap times, with the balanced handling of the R8 earning it top marks. That kind of balance of course can be much trickier with the corvettes platform.

Aren't you the one that says the GT-R is the best looking car ever?

Shut up with your stupid "pro-Japan" posts and appreciate all cars for what they are.
Your OWN people buy more German luxury cars than Japanese domestic ones.

Hopefully this will translate correctly when you use an online translator. Troll.

Sure looks like AWD gave the R8 extra performance. Of course a certain lover of RWD cars should be confused right about now.

Audi R8 won the game, well, I am not surprised. The Americans think that horsepower is everything, so they always end up making crappy cars that are only capable of making loud noises.

Oh well, but we all know that GM will bankrupt soon anyway :) along with Ford :)
