The next-generation Audi S3 cabriolet, caught by our spy photographers in light disguise. Based on the third generation of the Audi A3, the next A3 convertible will be aimed squarely at the U.S. market for the first time. Audi’s American dream is why the new ragtop will be based on the upcoming A3 sedan, with its longer wheelbase and classic proportions, rather than on the A3 hatchback, as is the current A3 cabriolet.
Our spy shots depict a stylish, slim, two-door convertible, complete with a purist-preferred softtop rather than the ever-more-popular folding hardtop. This being the high-performance S3 version, it comes with quad exhaust outlets, and visible below the camouflage are S3-specific front air intakes. The wheels on this prototype are taken from the standard A3; it is fitted with xenon headlights, but full LED headlights will be available. LED taillights appear to feature lighting elements that mimic the style of the headlights.
