Audi Superbowl Ads To Feature A Godfather Theme
Audi’s first Super Bowl spot since 1991 will use themes, if not scenes, from the classic movie, The Godfather. The spot will run during the Super Bowl in the first quarter.

Audi CMO Scott Keogh said today that the concept is to use the theme of the 1972 movie as new world vs. old world in terms of luxury cars.

“It’s a classic struggle,” Keogh said. “And we’re taking it and applying it to Audi and using it to explain the nature of that conflict.”

The spot, via Venables Bell & Partners, San Francisco, plays on the attitudes of the characters in the movie, and “is not extremely verbose,” Keogh said. “We are not literal in the spot; it is open to interpretation.”

The spot will drive people to a Web site for the featured product, the R8, which will post the ad and outtakes from filming and production of the spot.

In the movie, an old-school mob boss, Vito Corleone, seeks to bring his son, Michael, into the fold, but Michael resists.

Wait a minute!
You mean....Audi is actually going to try to craft an advertisement? With words?
Did the Buffalo Bills win the Super Bowl?

LOL I love all the market-weasel hyperbole to sell an esoteric, cliched mob ad that hints at a R8 website.

Good a million dollar a second (I know I slightly exaggerating)to sell a car that sold out for three year.

Yes,yes I know it a halo car but Audi NA needs to focus on cars that sell everyday.

I love Audi
I loathe Aund NA

Yes, Audi NA appears to have some problems. They should hire a head hunter and poach the entire marketing department of another brand (BMW...) who has the marketing down.

One of the best car ad's ever was the Audi 'ski jump' quattro ad. They should splice that in there and save the royalties spent on the godfather clips.

In fact, why don't they run an obviously winter vehicle, like the All-Road or A8, up the ski jump and then for laughs, have an R-8 (with studded snows of course) do it too. Now that would be cool.

I guess their marketing focus is on Male population. Should be cool, I wonder if they are going to use CGI to bring the original characters to life.

This advertisement is more of a way to raise interest in the entire brand. Their thinking is that the more people they get to the dealerships to see the R8 (even though they cannot get one), the more opportunities they have to get said people into A4s, A6s, and A8s etc.

sorry dude, there won't even be R8s at dealerships. Here in New England you'll be lucky to see one on the road.

In wealthy areas, there will be (about) 1 R8 on display, yes. You're lucky to see one on the road ANYWHERE.

I can hear it now.

"Audi, We bring up the rear and offer the weakest engine in class for our non-S and non-rs models (except tt). If there isn't an "S" or and "R/S" badge on an Audi. Dont expect to win any races."

Audi would be wiser to spend the advertising money on assisting its dealers to upgrading their facilities. In cities where an Audi dealers has invested to create a world-class dealerships experience [such as in Miami, FL] Audi vehicles sales are up big time.

. . . but then if Audi NA leaders were more talented then Audi would probably have double or treble the current sales in the US.

Audi is already doing this with its dealerships demanding upgrades as most dealers are in the process or will be upgrading. Every Audi dealer in my area has either upgraded to terminal style stand-alones or is in the process and sales are way up.
