Audi Targets US Luxury Market, 200,000 Cars By 2015
Audi is setting its sights on a far larger slice of the US luxury car market with a plan to more than double its sales there to 200,000 by 2015.
Volkswagen's (VW) premium brand will retool its US dealership network and develop a new smaller sports utility vehicle, the Q5, to raise its game in the world's largest car market, where it is less successful than European rivals such as BMW.

Personal experience with my curent A6 Quattro lease tells me that all of Audi's past problems are well behind them. My A6 is not only flawlessly finished but has gotten me through the worst winter storms including one where the authorities closed the highway behind me.

Put me at #2- hopefully, I'll be getting on the list for an R8, or at least an RS5 Cabriolet.

The outrageous Q7 V12 TDI, Updated A8 by 2010, RS5, Possible Clubsport Quattro, all upcoming models that will give bmw a good time trying to "be one step ahead".
The q7 V12 speaks for itself when it will be more desired and a better performer than any BMW SUV. A visionary step and successfull move already.

"All those are niche vehicles that won't contribute much to their goal."
Yes, but they're halo vehicles. What do you think the IS-F, LF-A, LS600hL, SL65 AMG, M6, Alpina B7 and SLR McLaren are there for?

Number is very attainable...
Its always good to reach high, especially in a market that is not your biggest and that is not completely familiar with the brand. New engines will help to attain this (ie diesel engines).

so is that relevant? how much per year? in which markets?
Don't get me wrong, I love BMW, but just think dumb comments from some people are unwarranted.

what? are the questions posed by you relevant? my initial reply was a comment and in fact it is relevant considering they are competitors.
Don't get me wrong, I also love AUDI, but just think dumb comments from some people are unwarranted.

yes, because maybe 100k worldwide vs 100k in US... thats relevant no?
this is about Audi's goal for US, not a make's goal for a segment, see the difference?

lol. why yes. yes i do.
do you see the correlation? do you realize that the number in sales in a segment is typically smaller than the number in an entire market whereas here bmw is now offering a substantially higher number of m3s as it ever did in m tradition? half of the entire line of audi in one region in the same time span from 2007 through 20015.
lollerballz.

I understand your point... my point is, whats the relevence of bringing BMW into the mix?
BMW is already ahead of Audi is sales, US and worldwide, so why is that a surprise that they expect to sell more of a certain segment?
Suppose a certain make puts out a car and believe that it can "dethrone" the king, the 335i. The 3er does 0-60 in 4.8s. Lets pretend certain make's car is called the IS, which can do 0-60 in 5.0s. Why do BMW have to say that their car can do 0-60 in 4.8s and is better, when its already a given fact that it is?

1. Would you consider it to be good that there will be even more posers driving M3s on our roads? I want my performance car to be exclusive.
2. If you think Audi is far behind BMW, you are mistaken. They are ahead of BMW in Europe, tagging behind Mercedes-Benz; they crush both in Asian markets.

Audi's problem is not with their products,ok they need a few more models. The problem is with their dealer network. The people, and dealerships are second rate.

audi has done a great job in most of the major markets with the dealer network. If you live in timbuck two then the dealer still might suck

I'm fairly close with my salesman, so I haven't had quite the same experience. But I haven't heard great things about the other dealership in my area. They need to pamper.

I think they should target 200,000 for sure- but SOONER! Be more AGGRESSIVE! This is the problem! The European marketers and planners are sharks; they know exactly how to work it, which is what has propelled Audi ahead of BMW in Europe (and all of its key markets). However, its US guys just don't get it. They need to put some more effort into it- US sales do not just happen. You have to UNDERSTAND the buyers so that you can lure them into the dealer.
