Audi building CSL and AMG Black Series rivals
BMW has enjoyed some success with its CSL range of stripped out ready-to-race M3s and Mercedes-Benz is on the verge of delivering its third lightweight Black Series model. That leaves the third major German carmaker, Audi, who will soon offer uprated sports versions of its regular production models.

Speaking at a recent press event Audi’s quattro development chief Stefan Reil hinted that lightweight versions of the R8 supercar and TT were being considered.

Good I am glad you do not think the m5 is a super car, cause it is not possible to design and uglier car than the 5.

Yes their quality will never sink to Merc levels and you have to have a micron of taste to appreciate an Audi.

Sure Audi may not be on level with Merc, but it is a step above subaru for sure

What on earth makes you say audi is not at Merc's level? Seriously, i am not saying this in a biased point of view, i really think audi has the credentials and car quality to compete with likes of BMW and Merc. I would also like to question how larry got boosted for a comment like that.

Oh I really do think some audis are better than some mercs but didn't feel like getting into a huge argument with larry and madibaP about that subject. I was pointing towards Audi being on a higher level than Subaru

There are clearly two different kinds of 'ugly' you are talking about. One is 'ugly' only because it is boring. The other is 'ugly' because of how excessive and grotesque all the add-ons are.

Yeah, the same CSL that only had 360hp and was as fast as a Porsche 997 Turbo.

The news is definitely exciting though. Performance junkies are always looking for ways to lighten their cars. Audi offering lightweight, track-only cars will be good.

This is awesome news. Audi is already very competitive with its S and RS lines. The just retired RS4 has 420 horses and the RS6 wagon has 580 horses to compete with the likes from BMW and Mercedes. Adding a lightweight line will mean greater competition and better products for the consumers to choose.
