Audi making 20 R8's a day: 1,500 have been delivered
Wondering why you keep spotting the Audi R8 on the road like Ray Wert from Jalopnik? Well that’s because Audi customers have been able to take possession of the R8 since the start of June, with 1,500 units of the car already delivered to dealers and buyers.

Full-scale production of the car is already running at top speed in Neckarsulm with the maximum number of 20 R8’s being produced a day. Audi fans have been ordering the R8 since September 2006, several who did so without even test-driving it. In the German market, the entire production capacity for 2007...

20 cars per day X 300 days is 6000 units for the whole world that's limited production!

not really on a year basis. Limited production would be something less that 1500 per year. The BMW Z8 only built 4500 cars over a 4 year period. I was expecting the R8 to be more limited. Part of being an exotic car, is that it is exotic. 6000 for the US isnt that special.

But unlike the Z8 this will probably make some money for Audi.
6000 a year is a lot more profitable than 1000.

That's 6000 World Wide.
Only 300 are making it to the U.S this year and 700 each year for the next 5.
That's exclusive; even more than the F430.

The other guy said 6000 for the whole world, not just US. From what I know it will be about 3000 for US. Not the same thing. Maybe not as limited as the Z8, but still limited, its not gonna be like a civic, where they sell as many as posible. They will stop at 6000. LIMITED. How many M5 out there? Cause I can barely see one every 6 months (Chicago, huge city) but is not limited, just expensive. Now think about more expensive, and limited! If I see an Audi R8 once an year I am lucky.

there will not be 600 for the US

300 this year
1000 next year
and maybe 1000 for the final year

that is 2300 for the entire usa in 3 years

rq12 - M5's are rare in Chicago? I see them all the time here in NY. As a matter of fact I was driving in the Bronx yesterday and saw one sitting in front of body shop with it's front end smashed (the owner looked pretty sad). Now a Z8 is rare - I've only seen two or three. The most rare car to me has been the SLR Mercedes. I've seen a couple of Enzo's and Carrera GT's - but only one SLR.

I think the R8 will be out longer than 3 model years. Audi will have plenty of updates and stuff for the R8. A 3 year run would make no sense.

This car is just spectacular. I'd buy one tomorrow if a) they were available, b)they weren't all taken, and c) if i had the money...

It's going to be around for longer than 3 years. Audi already has a V10 and V12 versions in the work. They also have a diesel version in the works as well.
