Audi planning to resurrect the legendary ‘Ur-Quattro’

Nothing comes close to the legendary “Ur-Quattro” as far as classic Audi models are concerned.

Even with only 160hp, the 1985 Audi Quattro was already a monster of a ride during its time. When the latest Audi S5 gets to the streets, the Ingolstadt diehards over at Fourtitude stacked the two of them up against each other, and if the speculations are accurate, Audi may be prepping a successor of their own.

There is a suggestion from the German publication Autobild that the lightweight sport-coupe could come with the ‘A5 quattro sport’ name and receive a 425hp V6 unit, positioning it right smack in the middle of the S5 and the impending RS5. Although it sounds tempting, it is somewhat far-flung. But who will complain if Audi decides to create another beast? Informers say that 2012 is the year the revival is set to hit the streets.

thats why they said the "new" lightweight vehicle would be named A5...

Only the name of A5 would be used, but it doesnt necessarily mean the weight.

I think its a waste of time and money......but who am I most companies will have 2 different models of a car you have the A5 and the S5. Now AUDI has the A5/S5/RS5(on its way) and now the ‘A5 quattro sport’.....i mean the A5 is hot but its not the only car they make. I hope they put as much effort into the new A8 and the A7 as the are with these NOW 4 models of the A5????????????????????

And Lexus sales are in the crapper.... everywhere else in the world.
Let Audi sales be in the crapper in the States. Right now, it is a very goood thing as they are not as affected as the other brands.

Nice try, Audi salesman, but you failed to provide any numbers to give readers a big picture.

The last full year global sales I was able to find (on AutoSpies by the way) are as follows:

2007 Audi global sales: 964,151
2007 Lexus global sales: 518,000

Now if you consider that in 2007 Volkswagen shipped 200.000 units of Audi A3 (rebadged Golf) in Europe itself and that Audi offers hairdresser's special the TT (and the A3 as well) all over the world, you'll quickly sum those figures to more or less 300.000 cars annually in niches Lexus does not compete in (and they should!).

So core sales figures in competitive areas will be:
2007 Audi global sales: 964,151 - 300.000 = 664.000
2007 Lexus global sales: 518,000

As you can see, Lexus does not all that bad. They should immediately come up with rebadged Corolla and revive some sort of Celica with L-badge to stay very close behind Audi.

Bratwurst, tsk tsk tsk, stooping to arbitrarily subtracting sales because of the rebadging issue? Really? That's sad, I would have expected more from you. Fine, if that's the game we're going to play then subtract all the Lexus ES's they sold, since it's just a Camry in a tuxedo. What are Lexus's numbers without the ES?

did you read my question? I asked how is Lexus doing in their 4th largest market? Audi sales are down 23.1% MTD 2009 vs 2008 in the US but their market share is up from 6.4% to 7.3%.

I can only imagine how much that car will cost. Since Audi overprices any of thier vehicles that actaully perform, expect a $5-7k premium over competing cars that perform the same and are in the Audi's class.

Apparently you don't know your stuff and call yourself a badgewhore.

The Ur-Quattro was very reliable.
You are thinking of the Audi 5000 which was not as bad as people think.
The only reason why Audi almost left the U.S (not bankrupt)was because of very bad U.S television and people here will eat with a spoon all that is given to them on T.V.
Then the Sport Quattro was a monster and still considered an icon.
Something Lexus will never acheive!
