Audi releases A4 2.0 TDI e: the Most Efficient Standard-Size Sedan

Hmmmm...penalty box on wheels versus A4...same fuel economy...not a tough decision. Yup, that *is* progress. Of course, not exactly the parameters that politically correct poseurs are looking for, now is it?

It gets much worse fuel economy. In the European ECE certification test Audi returned 4,6 l/100km (51,3 US MPG). Toyota Prius III returned 3,3 l/100km (71,2 US MPG) [1].

Meanwhile, the real comparative efficiency figures of hydrocarbon consumption are 89 g CO2/km for the Toyota Prius III and 119 g CO2/km for the Audi A4 2.0 TDI e, 33,7% worse.

That's true. Out of 860+ European cars tested by ADAC for pollution, diesels mostly covered 400 last places. Toyota Prius II topped the rating.

I would understand your comments if the two cars were in the same class size wise. I might understand if you compared the Audi to say a camry hybrid but a prius? What is the tank size of a prius? Can it drive/last as far as diesel without refeuling? The most I've heard of a prius is around 450 miles on a tank, but I routinely hear of diesels getting over 600 miles to a tank.

1. I was responsing to david969 misleading comment about "the same fuel consumption". Results are from different driving tests and are for different fuel types - absolutely incomparable.

2. Prius comparability to A4? Well, it is not that far away. Key factor determining interior volume, the wheelbase, is as follows:

Audi A4 B7: 2,648 mm
Toyota Prius II: 2,700 mm
Toyota Prius III: 2,700 mm
Audi A4 B8: 2,808 mm

However, basically Audi A4 is an ordinary midsize car while Prius is at the lower end of this class.

3. According to AutoSpies Prius Hating Code, Prius is comparable with everything smaller, like citicars VW Polo or Mini, mopeds, bicycles, wheelbarrows.

Considering drivers get a tad more than EPA rating, 500 miles on a tank of gas is absolutely possible without any effort.

You have to drive on highways only. You'll get 500 miles on single tank in a Prius regardless of where you drive, city or highway.

That's becouse it runs on methane which has 4 atoms of hydrogen per 1 atom of carbon, benzin has ratio close to 2:1 which very shortly means less H2O and more CO2 for benzin car than for methane car.
But instalation to run car on methane cost quite a lot, at least in my country.

It cost decisively to much to make it a bestseller, and becouse taxes are lower for diesel fuel in Europe it's not cost effecient to drive a Prius compared to clattering TDI, ufortunately I have to be poisoned by diesel exhausts.

I am going to ask you a series of simple questions. I am expecting simple, clear accurate answers:

1 - who was the World first Luxury car manufacturer to sell a Hybrid vehicle?
2 - who was the world luxury manufacturer to mass produce and implement Turbo with Direct Injection?
3 - Are those batteries in your so loved Prius recyclable?
4 - what is the recyclable % of a Prius?
5 - What is the reusable % of a Prius?
6 - Can I have leather seats in a Lexus RXh?
7 - Can I have Xenon lights in a Prius or RXh?
8 - Can I have a white pearl paint for my RXh?
Depending on your answers to those last 3 questions, a yes or a no is all I want, I will tell you why I asked those questions.
9 - what is the main purpose and reason of acquiring a Prius?
10 - Is the prius a comparable to an Audi A4?

I will stop here for now and wait for your answers.

David, I am so glad that you just proved your ignorance;

1 - in 1996, Audi sold in Europe the Audi DUO III, based on a A4 avant, this car had a 1.9TDI engine and a hybrid plug in drivetrain. Since Audi is a luxury brand and Europe is part of the World, Audi therefore was the 1st luxury manufacturer to sell a Hybrid vehicle, and on top of it, Diesel.

2 - The first direct injection turbo diesel was the Audi 100 2.5 TDI

3 - Putting the batteries in a storage is not recycling

4 - that sounds promising if true, but is it just the Prius? as every Audi sold today is at least 85% recyclable

5 - and 95% reusable.Which is the next European standard in 2014.

6 - Great, now does Lexus use a organic dye, like Audi does for every single model in its line up, or do they use the "earth friendly" chrome base dye?

7 - Great, now does Lexus use Mercury in their Xenon lights? as for example the Q5 has Mercury free xenon lights.

8 - This is so nice, did you know that it is not possible to do a white pearl paint without using an oil base paint? That is why Audi uses only water base paint.

9 - So if I can have any Toyota/lexus Hybrid with chrome dye leather, mercury filled xenon lights and a oil base paint, do I really help the environment? Did you know that based on fuel consumption alone, it will take 7 years for a Lexus RX400h owner to get his money back, or pay the difference between a RX350 and a 400h base MSRP?
