Audi's Continuation in ALMS Threatened
In case you missed the quote in the Road America pre-race release from Audi, there are some tough-talking words from Audi Sport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich in regards to the ALMS' ruling on adding weight to the R10 and adding fuel tank capacity to its competitors.
"To us, the recent regulation changes made by IMSA appear to have been made at random and are unjustified. A year ago hardly anybody could believe that it would be possible to win a race with a diesel powered sportscar. We demonstrated that it is feasible, and thanks to ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ we produced the world’s most state-of-the-art LM P1. We can not accept that our life will now be made artificially difficult. Audi, the manufacturer, which has supported and promoted the ALMS for years and helped to make it what it is today, will only continue its American Le Mans Series programme if there are again stable and consistent rules, like at Le Mans, which also contribute towards justifying manufacturer's involvement and expenditure.”
Could Audi leave the ALMS? Reading the above quote might suggest that. If it happened, that'd be a real shame. The series is just gathering momentum, and a departure seems as if it'd be Lose:Lose for Audi and the series.

They are in no doubt pissed off about it. However IMSA would like to see the top cars be at least on the same lap at the finish line. Actually the the LMP2 Porsches are faster than the LMP1 Lolas, and when they actually finish the race they are on the heels of the Audis. I bet we see a rewrite of the rules for 2007.

Well you look at the rules. You design and develop and spend 90 million on it to have them say in mid season. "you are too much faster, we now need to make it harder on you". That has to be fustrating.

Audi is not going to leave, they are letting others known that the competition has been given an 143 pound weight reduction.

I thought that someone couple days ago said that there's too many articles concerning BMW's. I dont think so. Audi/Lexoyota are earning that title.

If audi pulls out they need to do it after they have secured the title. Boycott the rest in protest.
