Good for Audi, but North American sales are still pitiful.

I agree, I love Audi, but hate Audi NA.

Thats because there is not much profit per vehicle sold in NA when compared to the Rest of the World. They have to keep their prices down to be competitive in NA and with the sliding dollar, they are now making losses on Q7s

Hence Audi is concentrating more on Europe and emerging markets like China & Russia etc.

Pitiful? Hardly. Jaguar sales are pitiful, unfortunately. But about 100,000 cars in the US is nothing to sneeze at.

The US just isn't Audi's focus right now, though. And it doesn't have to be.

Too bad they are not going to reach 1 Million this year. Maybe next year or 2009. Either way, they are looking really good.

Audi will figure out eventually that their Q 7's and the like will need to be produced in the good old USA just like BMW does. It's only a matter of time.

So long as they dont make the BMW mistake of attempting to include Design studios over in the USA, or use Focus Groups.

I think BMW has learnt their lessons and will remove those 2 hindrances

Audi sales will probably be going down for the next 6 months or so until the new A4 comes out. THis is their est selling car and the current model is at its End of Life. The new MLP platform A4 is coming and sales will pick up a lot, combined with the new Q5 coming out late next year. The new A4 and Q5 will take Audi's sales through the roof.

No, you're right, the A5 isn't available in the US yet. Only the S5.

Maybe off subject but :

If I were to lease a car, would that count as a sale?
Does someone (dealership) BUY it and lease it to me?
Im just wondering if anyone knows.
Most people that I meet that own a "luxury car", lease them and I was wondering if those leases were considered sales somehow..

A lease is like renting a vehicle for an extended period of time. You pay for it while you have it... and don't get anything back. That's why I haven't leased any of my cars in six years.

Yes, Lease counts as a sale, that's how BMW get good sales numbers. BMW is most leased brand. 70% of 7, 65% of 3 and about 60% of 5 are leased.
No. dealership do not buy the car for you. you lease the car from the car company.
Yes, leasing makes financial sense when you can get tax-cut. i.e. your own a company. your company lease cars to increase expending thus decrease profit, which means less tax.

"Sometimes it is a better deal to lease.

The reason BMW has so many leases, is because they have a high residuals."

That is absolutely true. I would've leased an S-Class if my wife had wanted one, only because I'm not willing to pay $1,500/mo on her car (but my car is a different story). It has excellent residuals and I would've saved nearly $600/mo over buying.

yeah, audi does have beautiful cars, im not suprized about their sales numbers or the percentages about bmws' leases that ghosthunter posted. ive spoken to alot of people and about 75% of them that drive a mercedes or bmw, lease them. ive been curious lately as to how bmws sell so much yet all i see are leases..

I dont know what to consider it as but i see it as a rental. So, most people you know purchased their bmw. Maybe its the fact that we live in different regions. I live in Miami, Fl. I did alot of reseach before purchasing my last vehicle, so i talked to alot of people, sometimes, test driving THEIR cars, also others at the dealer, etc..and i noticed that most people that drive the 325i or the 328i, lease them, also 7 series. I dont really know anyone that has a 5 series, except an m5, and he did buy it. What ghosthunter posted, seems accurate, but he never posted the link or where it was that he got that info...
