Audi thinking US production
A number of European carmakers are seriously considering starting production in the U.S. to take advantage of the low dollar and to improve production and logistic efficiencies of popular import models in North America.

Volkswagen has already confirmed it’s looking for a new site in the U.S. to build a factory and Fiat has also revealed it’s considering the move and Audi, too, is thinking of doing the same.

One major advantage Audi has is that it can borrow capacity at VW’s future American plant.

An economist I am not but what happens down the road when the dollar rebounds? I'm assuming the weak US$ will mainly help in the construction of the plant and then economies of scale kick in after that regardless of where the dollar is.

Yes please, in NC.

They story makes little sense though...not until Audi sells 150,000 cars in US to match production? So this plant is going to handle assembly of all platforms, ok.

Sharing the VW plant would only work with transverse (A3,TT) platforms.

Not sure the dollar will 'rebound'. I think it's more a reflection of a new world economy. Dollar is low (in large part) because of changes in our role in the world economy. That's not neccesarily all bad, as seen in the growing export business we have and companies wanting to move manufacturing here.
