It said that it will come only a year after the closed top version. This is exciting, I am not sure how it will look without the top, but it will probably end up very good.

Instead of paying $200K for the Lambo you pay $120 for the Audi R8 w/ V10 engine and get the same performance as the Gallardo for $80K less

Really cool design, but is this R8 going against? Is it competing in the same segement as the Porsche 911 S, Aston Martin AMV8 or even the BMW M6?

efoxS4:

You are way to obsessed with blue cars. Don't you have three blue cars already?

lol jk

IMO, the light blue on the R8 looks kinda girly.

Gallardo's are not $200K. You are thinking Murcielago. Plus, the Gallardo I test drove was a DOG.

Gallardos are awesome but they are expensive. These cars don't sell for sticker, how about 30 k above MSRP. The MSRP is 175k, but they are selling for 206k, sure there might be options, but still 206 is a lot. Also there aren't many sold, Audi will sell more R8, therefore you can actually get one, and the price difference is quite big.

Will: this has the Lamorghini engine and everything, it's just reskinned w/ an Audi badge. I agree, $120+ K is steep for an Audi and I wonder what it will be worth three to five years later.

You guys are living in dream world regarding the pricing on a Gallardo. I just almost bought one for $140k. Yes the spyders are jacked up because of market demand, but that same demand will elevate the pricing on an Audi R8 Spyder. And $120k is not steep for an Audi. I just thought I got a deal on a Ford GT for $150k and it's a freakin' Ford!

TheRogue

You are the one that is dreaming, I gave you a link, Gallardos are going for over 200k, and those are not even spyders, the top one goes for 213k, and Lamborghini is having its best year ever with sales/
SixxFive
The RS6 has held its value better than comparable M5s. I expect the R8 to hold its value well.

Lexus,

You were right in the first instance. The 911 GT3 RS does NOT compete with the AMV8 and M6, but the 911 S does.

Waaay too track-focussed and hardcore is the GT3 RS.

SO you are telling me that I can buy a Gallardo coupe and Spyder for almost the same money- $200~213. I think not. Go into an actual dealership, and then we can talk. They can post whatever numbers they want on the web, but in reality, in the current state of our economy, in the richest place on earth (Orange County, CA) you and I can buy a Gallardo coupe for $140-160k. Call Newport Auto Center. They have several. And while you are there, look for my 993TT and GT2 that are for sale.

the r8 is supposed to compete with m6, 911, sl 55amg, AMV8 et al.
it will be the only mid engined car in that class.
it should not compete with a gallardo.
it will be easier to drive every day than the gallardo (you should be able to see out the back for one thing)

My close reliable friends within Audi AG have told me that the R8 will have the Lambo V10 NON-TURBO....that was the agreement with sister company Lambo....Can't step on the Bull's toes...........One of my best friends is going to Germany for training on this fine car in a few weeks.........will keep all abreast!

The R8 will compete against:
911 Turbo, M6, AM, F430, Maserati, Sl55, SL63 and others.
This car will be most likely be available at about only 600/ year for the U.S market.
it will come fully loaded; you cannot upsale 19" or 20' wheels to buyers looking at that car.
Lambo Gallardos are not selling in the upper 100k and the spyder over $200k.
Audi is very serious about selling this car right to the U.S and I know this for a fact. Audi asked its dealers how to sell this car well. Audi listened.

man it is going to suck to have every log lizard (and all the Audi hatters) come in to my dealership trying "drive" the R8 and then saying "how do i know I will buy it before I can drive it" (as they say this another customer comes out of finance with a new R8.

I say to the customer next to the R8 "sir please stand away from the velvet rope and don't make me ask you again"

Later that day a customer comes in the dealership and complaines about the $20k mark up. At that same time someone calles in with a desprate tone asking "do you have any R8s available?" 10 min later the car is sold at full asking price.

Almost like the Rs4 is today/ Things are looking better for the Audi salesperson

BTW this is all done in good humor but stay away from my car

TheRogue......somebody scratching their own back? If you really have those cars, hats off. I'm guessing the richest place on earth is somewhere like Monaco though, not the OC. Although in the TV show there are some pretty rich people.....are you really Peter Gallagher? :)

I'm struggling to find a hint of ugliness about that rear-end.

Methinks Sauceboy01 is blind, or a BMW fan.
