Audi statistics in China are somewhat inaccurate. Let's start with the US. In the US, all Audi's are built in Germany under strict quality control measures. When these cars are shipped to the US, the cars are subject to import taxes. The same goes for many(not all) Lexus, BMW, and other luxury imports.
By contrast, in China, you see tons of black Audi A6's on the road with a fair share of A4's. All of these Audi's are BUILT IN CHINA(Shanghai specifically) using Chinese, not German workers. Chinese labor is much cheaper than German labor. This saves Audi tons of money. Also, the cars are not subject to VERY heavy Chinese import taxes which would normally be passed onto the consumer.
So, when you compare say, Lexus stats in the US with Audi in China, it's not really a fair comparison. Nothing against Audi, they build great cars. But with the exception of the Lexus RX, all Lexus cars are made in Japan. All Lexus cars imported into China are taxed heavily.
I was in China recently, talked to many people, which is why I'm familiar with the situation. Volkswagon/Audi entered the Chinese market early in the game and set up plants to build cars in China exclusively for the Chinese market.

So whats your point? This article does not mention anything about Lexus. Why does everything have to involve Lexus with you people.

Its good for Audi/VW that they had first mover advantage in a growing market that they realized was going to grow to become the biggest in the world.

Besides, Lexus is not big enough on a global scale to start having production plants for local markets. Just like Audi is not yet big enough in the US to have production be based in the US.

TheirryHenry beat me to it... this has nothing to do with Lexus, just Audi's Chinese success. Audi and VW have a duopoly on the market with Chevy and Buick, and these two powerhouses will most likely retain their foothold for the years to come. This means Audi's worldwide sales will increase dramatically as the US market falls into a distant second place behind Chinese car sales.

Audi isnt the reason the gas prices have gone up...many factors play the role.

1-iraq invasion--cutting production to about half its normality
2-GWB and the admins policies they've drove this country to believe in
3-larger global markets from the likes of India and China
4-Saudi Arabia putting the amount prodcued at a stand still, letting everyone deal with the skyrocket in prices

ahh the good ol' days when Clinton had prices in the $1.XX range. THANK YOU GWB supporters for the famed idot in office.

make a change, Ron Paul '08!!!

My friend from Shanghai says VW's built in China are junk. I wonder what the quality of Audi's are? Probably too much lead in the paint.

Calm down. I'm sure Toyota's and Buick's built in China are crap compared to the ones made over here.
