Audi wins again, named most beautiful car of the year
Audi is making a habit of winning the Auto Bild Design Award conferred by readers of Auto Bild: After voting the Audi TT the winner in 2006 and the Audi R8 the victor one year later, the readers of the German automotive magazine this year chose the Audi A4 as the “most beautiful car of the year,” and thus as the overall champion. In addition, the A4 also took a clear first place in the sedan and station wagon category, finishing well ahead of its competitors. The Audi A3 likewise outperformed all its rivals in the small and compact car segment, as did the Audi Q5 in the off-road vehicle and SUV category.

Approximately 42,000 readers of Auto Bild took part in the voting on vehicle design, choosing from among more than 100 cars in seven categories. The magazine has been presenting the award since 2006, with Audi taking first place overall every year.

The Audi Q5 immediately won out in the off-road vehicle and SUV category this year, before even being launched on the market. In the overall rankings, the Q5 received so many votes that it took third place its first time out.

The Audi A3 product improvement impressed readers, accumulating more than 23 percent of the votes. Audi rounded off its success in the study and concept car category, taking second place with the Audi A1 project quattro.

Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, will accept the award from Bernd Wieland, editor-in-chief of Auto Bild, at the Paris Motor Show on Thursday.

You would think the A5 and not the A4 would have been chosen most beautiful car.

what's the difference, they both start with an "A" and they look the same.

You've seen one Audi you've seen them all.

Even if your charges of pro-German bias are true, AutoBild could have handed awards to other German companies - Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Volkswagen, Opel, Ford - but they didn't.

Way to go, Audi! This company is definitely on a roll.

Not in the world, but of all the cars released this year.

To which I still say, "huh?" The A5 should've won. That is a truly beautiful car. The A4 is merely very attractive.

Right. I have never known a "coupe" version of a car to be more beautiful than the sedan version. Never has happend IMHO...

I think you mean the other way around? A sedan has never been more beautiful than its coupe counterpart.

A5 looks better than the A4 because its curves flow better in a coupe form than sedan.

You haters need to really open up your mind to design possibilities.

I'm not a German car lover by any means (can't stand the look of the older generation 911, and the last generation Audis truly looked generic), but when something looks good, I gotta give it credit. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but who in their right mind thinks the Toyota Prius is all that attractive? I think the Nissan Altima coupe is pretty impressive in terms of styling for the money, and looks way more stylish than any similarly priced VW.

Congratulation to Audi, they definitely deserve it. I saw several new Audi S5 coupe and the Audi R8, it was gorgous, especially the LED light.

Congratulation again to Audi designing, and engineering team for job well done. Keep up the good work.

I got to admit audi makes a more conservative look with very little flash. their cars have nice lines and clean cut. thats a nice car I cant knock it the interior is nice also not too much going on in the interior but everything comes together in a nice package.

BMW on the other hand which I am a big fan of goes outside of the clean cut lines and having everything "SQUARE". If may not have won any awards but if BMW thought he was a terrible designer he would not have the Cheif Designer position at BMW. Bangles design is an aquired taste but you got to give the man credit how many 2002-2008 745's and 750's do you see on the road today I will tell you PLENTY I see at least 4 going to work everyday. what about the 2004-2008 5 series they are on the road like honda accords now. what about the oh so famous 2004-2008 6 series I am starting to see that car more than the 7 series. Now bangle has made BMW Millions of dollars if not Billions since 2002. Now thats not an award but its pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

with all these de-boosts for every audi post, it seems like everyone who is a bmw fanboy seeks out audi articles just to de-boost. that's not going to stop audi from being audi and doing what they do. Go Audi!!!

I love the new A4. I could get one the way I like it (option-wise) for $34,000 and that's MSRP. Similarly equipped 2009 BMW 325xi STARTS at $36,000 plus. That mean in order to get the leather, heated seats, HIDs, foglamps, 18" alloys I would have to probably shell out close to if not over 40k.
