Auto Bild tests Audi RS6, BMW M5 Touring, Alpina B5S Touring & MB E63 AMG
The boys over at M5Board.com have gotten their hands on the Auto Bild test that compares 4 German uber-wagons: Audi's RS6 Avant, BMW's M5 Touring, Alpina's B5S Touring and Mercedes-Benz's E63 AMG.

It was the RS6's 580 horsepower twin-turbo V10 that stole the show. The RS6 rocketed to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, .4 seconds than the second fastest Alpina B5S Touring and Benz E63 AMG. The gap became even wider to 200 km/h where the Audi took just 14.1 seconds while the next fastest car, the Alpina B5S could only achieve a time of 14.9 seconds to the same speed, making the Audi .8 seconds faster. The E63 AMG could only accomplish a time of 15.6 seconds while the M5 Touring came last with a 0-200 km/h time of 16.0 seconds. The Audi also lapped the Oschersblen track over one minute faster than the second fastest. Alpina B5S.

The competitors should be praised for their great cars in their own right. The M5 with its 500 horsepower NA V10, is a thrill to drive and the E63 AMG, like the RS6 is a torque monster. It sure looks like Audi's Quattro GmBH house has stepped things up with the RS6 both dynamically and acceleration wise.

It should be interesting to see what happens next.

The M5 got spanked by Audi's RS6. Expected.....BMW has a serious horsepower disadvantage and an even larger torque disadvantage.

The RS6 just came out...how about we wait for the new V10 twin turbo M5 that's suppossed to come out?...It's gonna blow the doors off of the RS6...Besides, why do you hate on BMWs so much? They are ultimately the reason why all other sedan/luxury/family cars around the world have developed better handling, braking, and yes more powerful.

The new M5 isn't due until 2011 by which time the RS6 will probably not be produced anymore making room for the new A6 and a new RS6 to follow afterwards. This RS6 is built as a direct competitor to the current M5.

There will never be a time when the three germans put out new generations of the same class cars on the same year, so its pointless to argue "wait until the new..." comes out. Its like the E46 M3, C55, and RS4 (when it first came out). The RS4 was winning, because it was the newest. Then came the M3 and C63, and the RS4 is now dated and does not win. Its all about when in the cycle of the product it is being tested.

"GermanNut" you have to be one of the most annoying users on this site! You're like an Audi Robot, the minute your programming finds something positive about Audi, you'll show up on this site after not saying anything for weeks just to recite your positive Audi news.

Then when someone else comes out & factually discredits Audi, you're nowhere to be found! Probably because your programming doesn't commute.

Now I hate your posts as much as equally annoying "amazinbimmer" because you're both very troubled, he suffers from a bad case of BMW bias while you suffer from BMW envy.

Obviously though you totally ruined your credit on this site when you went through your supposed "BMW fan stage" claiming you preferred Bimmers to Audi's, though all the while staying positively biased towards Audi. Change your name to "AudiNut" or just flat out "Loser," either one would represent you better than the current one.

Maybe the amazinIdiot can chime in on how his favorite BMW got whipped courtesy of Audi's torque monster.

It's a wagon.

Not to mention, they're 0-100km/h times, which makes a 0.2-0.4 sec difference.

Most German magazines will give you the factory 0-100 km/h rating meaning they don't really test the acceleration times that seriously. Europeans fancy midrange acceleration over 0-100 km/h and hence our magazines test this aspect rather well.

When it comes to 0-60 times I actually only trust "Car and Driver".

so because they test 0-62mph instead of 0-60mph they aren't taking it seriously? Maybe they were doing it in reverse blindfolded.

huh, I thought I read on M5Board.com how everyone thought the RS6 would lose it's power advantage at higher speeds. Guess not...

you should have read somewhere where the cars in this test have gotten from 4.0-4.2 seconds in test, 4.2-4.3 consistently on many occasions

doesn't matter. In a head to head thest the RS6 was way quicker.

American times are quicker because they only go to 60, use rollout and a drag strip. Rollout is basically testing 3-60 and cuts down on the acceleration figure. Rollout acounts for several tenths, (look at recent Inside Line articles) as do other variations.

what I was saying was that all the BMW guys were dismissing the RS6 and saying it would be reeled in at higher speeds. I guess this proves otherwise.

so your saying in america they dont know how to do those test???? the american mags conduct the same multiple test and again these times are very slow, the E550 has gotten 4.9 before as has the 550i, the much more powerful variants of these cars are getting close to the same times, hardly, im not trashing the RS6 but im saying those times are certainly OFF VERY OFF.

chewychewy - 5/8/2008 7:43:42 PM

the European times are different. They don't use rollout. There is about half a second difference that comes from rollout and going to 62 mph.

Not to mention, THESE ARE WAGONS. They are HEAVIER than their sedan counterparts.

If it comes out, the RS6 sedan will be scary quick. Like, it will be able to keep up with a Nissan GT-R without launch control.

It does prove otherwise, but we should all use common sense here.

Audi was NEVER going to release a new RS6 that was not faster than the M5. Hell just look at the horsepower and torque figures on the RS6. The M5 is getting blown away by the RS6's 80 more horsepower and god knows how much more torque available throughout practically the whole rev range.

Don't worry if Audi's TT-S can get 0-60 in 4.9 seconds which is equivalent of BMW's Z4M roadster and coupe, the TT-RS (or whatever they decide to call it) is surely going to be faster than the Z4M.

Looks like Audi's Quattro GmBH division will put BMW in its place.....again.

Considering BMW sells hand over fist more M cars than Audi does RS cars, and considering many buyers will buy the M5 despite it being slightly slower than the RS6 its still faster than 95% of the cars on the road. The M5 also has one of the best engines ever made, and its the default choice for driving enthusiasts. So yeeeaaahhh BMW is really worried.....not.

I think it's a good thing that RS cars sell less than M vehicles. It's always a cool thing to see an RS4 or RS6 on the road; M3, not so much. Although M5 and M6 are also very nice (and somewhat rare) to see.

Agreed, I see M cars on the road everyday & after a little bit I stop turning my head & pointing them out to others...RS cars however I always acknowledge because I'll only see one once a month.
