Auto Spies Agents Spy First BMW X6's Hitting Dealerships
I got one of those calls this afternoon that we get often here at AutoSpies.com.
001? Hey, thought you'd like to know if you show up at BMW of San Diego in about an hour, you'll be able to get photos of the first two X6's coming off the trucks.
Remember, you didn't hear this from ME!
So we jumped on the opportunity and got you the first in dealer shots of the 2009 BMW X6.
Check out all of the photos in our BMW X6 gallery:
http://shows.autospies.com/gallery/2009-BMW-X6-75/
If you haven't seen an X6 in real life yet, you will be blown away how large it looks in person and how high the back end is...The salesman is about 5'3" as a guide.
Love the little hydraulic piston that holds the tire cover up...
More cargo space than a Porsche Cayenne and almost as much cargo space as an X5
Taller drivers will appreciate the leather knee pads on the console on long term drives

If it sucks so bad, why do you keep coming back? I'm sure the site won't miss you.

Maybe San Diego is lagging. They ARE a little slow down there. But my dealership has a ton of them and has since last week. I am in Los Angeles.

Saw one in my dealer early last week. The 3.5L version. The back isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Definitely has a purposeful stance to it. Only negative I've heard so far is that Car & Driver found the V8 TT to have a slight lag to it, as compared to the inline-6 TT.

I just did the "build your own" thing-o on the BMW site... $67K+ for the kind of options a care of this class should reasonably have.
Does that seem insanely expensive to anyone else? Maybe I just don't see the point of this thing. Anyone care to explain?

Yes, it is definitely ridiculously overpriced. Anybody who cross-shops the Infiniti FX50 will buy that one.
Yes, it is ridiculously enormous. I don't see it as a positive that the 5'3" salesman can barely reach the hatch handle. Sure, the hatch might be automatic - but it is simply too big.
Car and Driver said that the front seat console knee-pad things are stupid and annoying and I agree.
Funny how everybody's saying they see X-6's at 'their dealer'. I suspect you'll be seeing more and more of them their because nobody's going to buy them.
Deboost away :-)

£56,630 for X6 xDrive35d with the kind of spec I'd like. The xDrive50i wasnt on the configurator... as obviously that would be first choice :)

A woman at our center who is 5' tall can reach the hatch from full open position without going on her toes. So everyone who doesn't know what they are talking about should simply stop saying things. You are either lying or you are ignorant and neither says much for you. After driving the X6 in an agressive track environment and out on the road I can say that having a soft contoured pad for my leg is a good thing. How anyone could bring that up as a negative is ridiculous.
The X6 handles like a sports car, has as much real usable cargo area as traditional wagon-shaped SUV, it looks elegant and athletic, and its beautifully put together. If it isn't for you, so be it, there are other vehicles out there. It is high-end and it is priced accordingly. I have interest mostly from 7 Series clients who universally think it looks fantastic.

That's odd. I saw the X6, 135i, and M3(2dr and 4dr)- all over 3 weeks ago at BMW of Arlington in VA.

Combines the commanding driving position and feel of safety that SUV drivers enjoy, with the practicality that is required by 90% of the SUV drivers I see - In an unusual, eye-catching package that will out handle/perform most SUV's.

The truck/car/crossover/suv/wagon looks awesome in red. Wow!
With such a small spare I could only imagine how weird it would look if one of those 315 rear tires blew lol.

I saw a black X6 last weekend at the dealership but it was a corporate vehicle that was making its tour around DFW. It looked AWESOME especially with the sport package and side steps. But $62K??....that is steep...

Op and Main,
I think you both make good points. It does have a higher center of gravity (than a car) while having the weight of a truck-like vehicle, and I certainly don't think the higher CG adds to safety. Having stated that, I also think this is the shape of wagons to come. The "old-style" wagon with a slightly higher ground clearance (the Audi Allroad and Volvo XC 70 come to mind) will be replaced by this type of wagon-SUV crossover. This is the wagon shape of the future, and I too find it eye catching, unusual, and pleasing to behold. I think it will be a big hit for BMW.

Can someone please define practicality, is it being a bachelor and having a minivan as an everyday car, or is it being married with two kids and having a corvette as the primary family car. practicality is different to each customer, and so is the price they pay for it. Its amazing how people whine and gripe over such matters, A young married couple with 2 kids, nice house, great paying jobs, and don't want a camry, but instead something to express their youthfulness would purchase a car like this. I know I would. A nice Armani suit is practical for a business meeting, and not for a construction site. BMW is only creating a market for those who might have been searching for a new kind of vehicle type/genre( perhaps bad choice of word). It looks nothing like an Aztec, thats like saying every suv looks like a horse carriage, grow the hell up please. New car segment, this is 2008 people, get with the future, 90% of the type of cars we have now didn't exist in the initial years of automotive design, because they weren't needed, now they either are needed not just for utilitarian purposes but for recreational purposes and sometimes for eye candy. But to sum it all up, this car is beautiful to me, i know pics don't do it any justice. It may be hard to believe but when the new 3 series coupes were first released, they were ugly to me in pics, but the first time i saw one in real life, it was the most beautiful car in its price range i had ever seen, then came the A5 and snatched that title. lol. I also was skeptical about the A5 when i saw it in pics, but seeing it in real like is another story, just an amazing car. So if you haven't seen a car in real life, make an intelligent criticism based on the circumstance.

This car is everything. If it were last year and I would have jumped all over this thing. Now with the uncertain economic times and high gas prices, I think I will wait until I can pick up a used one
