AutoExpress reviews the BMW X6: Is it a route worth following or a dead end?
Creating niche products doesn’t always guarantee you success –
but we can’t help feeling the X6 has ‘hit’ stamped all the way through it.
While the looks will put many buyers off, that conversely is certain to attract others.
The drivetrain, chassis and build quality are first rate, and although the cabin is a triumph of style over substance, the X6 is thoroughly competent.

Here's a thought... In our attempt to be unique, we are all the same because of our pursuit for uniqueness. ... WOW! I need to lay off the pot.

Finaly so my first X6 up close, as big of a BMW fan as I am, it's pointless and ugly.

I saw it up close today too. Not sure what to think other then that I won't buy it.

It should drive great like all BMWs butI'm not sure what to even say about this car either other than the fact that its sort of a fashion statement. whats the purpose of it again?

I have to admit that 001's selection of the important points with bold letters makes me chuckle.
This isn't a 5th grade textbook.

You have to understand, that Agent001 is a BMW employee.
Even if the X6 is a failure, he still has to defend it.
Cut him some slack.

If the X6 is a hit, then so is the ugly GX. They both have the same sales numbers.

The difference is Toyota doesn't even bother spending advertising money on the GX. The same can't be said from all the hype we hear about BMW's latest sports activity waste of space.

Eh... yeah, Lexus just intentionally built a crap car and then said, hey, lets not bother advertising this...

Dear 001:
Just because you were born into indentured servitude under BMW, doesn't mean you can't disagree with them every once in a while.
If they wheeled out a garbage compactor with the roundel logo, you'd be beside yourself over its 'beauty' and 'sheer handling joy'.
Give yourself a break will you, roundel slave? I own a BMW too ( a 545i), am very happy with it, but I don't get on all fours every morning and pray like an evangelical moron to the blue propeller badge.
You may not notice it, but a lot of us who write in on this blog, do so looking to see objective, candid journalism. Surprise us won't you? Let's have one piece that isn't candied over like a sugar coated-Dana Perino- White House- official release on Iraq.

PS. 001- What struck you as particularly 'competent':
The X6's 12 mpg or its 5300 lb curb weight, even as premium crosses $ 4.85 in downtown SD?
Don't fool me now- I'm right across the Old Town exit off Hwy-5 and it's there writ large (in blue and white too- just like the BMW logo).

why not trash other suvs that get 12 mpg like the Q7 or the toureg, the LX470, instead making some crusade against the X6 pretty pitiful, i hardly think a pointless image driven niche market suv should even be getting this much attention bmw or not. You would think people would complain about the fact the S4 gets 13mpg, or the S5 only gets 14, or the Fx also gets 14mpg, why not concetrate on those vehicles......its tiring reading so called non biased comments about everything BMW, Lexus is another one that cant win for losing on here, while there are many mass market vehicles parading around there 12-16mpg and are getting daily use with lots of gas like say the 4 cylinder RDX 16mpg are you kidding me...those vehicles you dont mention high gas prices but a 400hp X6 there is a problem.....take a dose of your own medicine.......

It'll sell. It'll get praised for it's on road competence.
Haters will just get more biased against BMW and make even more ridiculously petty reasons to hate the X6..
... I guess thats just the way it's going to be.

I personaly find this car very attractive. I guess that few other car makers will follow it, if of course it sells well.

This isn't the best, not the best looking. But somehow, it just has that thing makes you want to try this car. We all not it's not a sports car and it's not going to go 200MPH, but it is interesting enough that you go, "Hmmm, I should try it." I saw one the other day, bit far away from me, it was kind of weird looking, but it gets your attention. It's like the best of both worlds. If you have children and want a sports car, but also off road, maybe this is it.

Carboy,
A 328xi Touring would be better. More storage, more passenger space, more mileage, better handling, less money. It'll handle snow and rain just as well as the X6. In fact, the X3's smaller tires will actually do better in snow.

People don't seem to understand the X6 wasn't built to be practical, it was built to be better handling, more stylish, & faster than the X5. It's like questioning the purpose of a 3er coupe over the sedan.
I don't know about everyone else but I'm already seeing an X6 on the road almost every day, & the thing just came out!
