AutoExtremist Calls Porsche Cayenne GTS A Half-cocked, Bloated, Blunderbuss!
The GTS is the new version of the Cayenne SUV that abandons all pretense of having any off-road prowess. Instead, its mission is defined as being one of high performance for the road, and Porsche’s new ad campaign for the vehicle attempts to link it with every great road-going Porsche of the past. A stretch that only delusional Porsche marketers could possibly attempt - and a flat-out insult to every great Porsche sports car that has come before it.

Now, with this new campaign, Porsche is trying to slot its SUV into a segment that was made obsolete years ago – that of the “high-performance” SUV - an automotive oxymoron that should have never seen the light of day to begin with and one that Porsche has decided to attack, albeit years too late.

And the results, predictably, are disastrous.

The raison d’etre for the Cayenne GTS is non-existent. And the vehicle is especially ludicrous coming from a car company with one of the great automotive legacies of all time.

Who would have ever thought that a Porsche SUV would have been as successful as the Cayenne has been in the 1st place?

I certainly see the logic behind introducing another version/model between the S and the Turbo, though I'd never buy one.

Bottom line is "money" plain and simple.Porsche is the most profitable car company. If you have to "build a pig" to make money and fund your other projects so be it.Without this pig Porsche would not be in the good financial situation it's in today. The question is do you stick to the purety of limited production overpriced sports cars or do you venture into other markets in order to support your habit. If you're a business man you know the answer. And remember selling cars is a business.

"And remember selling cars is a business"...forgotten by enthusiasts at least 90% of the time.

I think it's more like 99% of the time. Isn't it nice there is a "Porsche" out there as a company to critisize in the first place. They made the correct decision to make the Cayenne and now they have enough money to replace their 911,Boxster,Cayman with new and better models within the next couple of yrs. They will then produce the Panamera and the 2dr version as well by 2011.

GoObama08-the only reason why Lexus didn't build a SUV like the Cayenne is because.....they couldn't and their customer base would not support such a car (sales). Meanwhile, Lexus is attempting to break ground in the performance category with the IS-F - with it's fake exhaust tips, I'm trying so hard to be taken seriously styling and several mechanical components from the LS.

I love Porsche sports cars. Since I was a kid. If the Cayenne allows Porsche to continue to build great sports cars on the backs of vapid yuppie tools, I say so be it.

As long as they keep building the 911 and Boxster/Cayman I am good to go. I wish you all the success possible with the Cayenne.
