BMW 1 Series New iDrive System - First released photos
We have already seen the new 7 Series and the 3 Series Facelifted version featuring the new revised iDrive system. In a recent U.K document release , BMW has announced that the new 1 Series will be getting the new iDrive as well.

We announced earlier this month(new iDrive 1, 3 and 7 Series), that U.S models will be receiving the same treatment and today, to our surprise, some marketing photos popped up on a BMW related forum.

Pousa13, a member of 1addicts.com, has posted some photos of a 1 Series convertible sporting the new navigation system along with the new iDrive setup.

Unfortunately, we are not 100% sure if any other models will be receiving the redesigned iDrive system, but we did quote one of our sources in the past, that stated the existing 5 Series will not receive the new system. Once again, BMW is known for changing things around pretty quick, so depending on when the exact new 5 Series release date might be, there is a possibility the existing 5er's will be equipped with the new iDrive.

Interestingly when BMW debuted iDrive they said it was to reduce the number of buttons and clutter in the interior. But every new iDrive and BMW for that matter has more and more buttons becuase they are more functional than spin and twist style controllers.
I still think iDrive has a place in the car but not for the most common functions. Those still need buttons.

It does reduce the number of buttons and clutter in the interior and the most common functions have always had buttons. You should try iDrive out. Everyone I have showed it to who has an open mind ends up thinking its simple and useful and don't see what all the fuss has been about. In the newset models with iDrive, BMW has added a row of programable buttons that the drive can assign to call frequently called phone numbers, radio staions, navigation destinations, or even device access such as an iPod. Brushing your finger across the buttons opens up tabs in the iDrive display to remind you what is currently saved to each button. You need to try it if you haven't, it works beautifully.

Let's simplify this for you. If I want to preset button number one to take me home, I simply highlight home in my navi system, and hold down number one. Let's get REALLY complicated here and preset number two to call my favorite number. I am pretty sure that with an education above the first grade level, it won't take anyone six months to learn that pressing number one, get this, will take you home!!!! Ok now, even crazier, pressing the number two button will call your favorite number!!!

Again, these shortcuts simplify processes and help to keep your otherwise wandering eyes on the road, and otherwise wandering hands on the wheel. This is all part of BMW's CRAZY plan to make people, including you and your family, safe on the road. Safe from yourselves, and safe from others. Let's not forget the responsibility we have while piloting a 4000 lb. object down the road at speeds over 70 mph. Let's also recognize the effort, time, engineering, and money BMW commits to these same safety measures. Please, see the light...

I will have to try it, I hope it is better... I honestly don't mess with mine too often in my 3 Series.... I am only 30, but I am still old fashioned when it comes to cars, I like to just drive them!

I like a few goodies in my car. I just wont buy built in navi. Portables are the way to go! From what I've heard, not many people mess with it too often. What ever happened to touch screens?

Will hold my final judgement until I can try it out myself. But it does look promising!

I never really saw a huge problem with iDrive. It had quite a learning curve, to say the least. I could memorize the menu's and flick through them, the same way that I could text on my phone without looking at it. My mom has a 530 with iDrive, which she hates.

spot on.
if you can text on your phone without looking at it, then obviously you can do iDrive without much of problems.

but most people cannot. in fact,it takes me 20 second to type one word on cell phone-- i just never use them. I-drive is a great concept, but BMW seems to forget what a car is about: driving (at least for the driver). i don't like the idea that you need to take your eye off the road and try to select the correct items on the navi screen when you drive on the freeway or attacking curves. and i don't like to memorize the i-drive manual becaues there are plantly of things i need to take care of in my life. i find voice command to be the most useful way.

Drove a 135i Sport coupe at Susan Komen charity event last weekend. The car was unbelievably fast, felt much quicker than my 335i and was really a ton of fun....drove it twice !!

This new iDrive makes the 1-series interior look much nicer IMO than the current fold up Nav screen. Also, the convertible is pretty girly if you ask me.

I never thought that the idrive was a really complex device. Personally I thought it was a brilliant idea and that it simplified all of the functions inside the car.

To be honest it took me 2-3 weeks to get used to it, and was quite maddening the first week and involved lots of reaching for the manual, but now I love it. I'll probably upgrade my current 335i in a year and half or so when the coupe 'refresh' comes out just for new new iDrive and M-DCT dual clutch transmission.

Ran across this description the other day...Rather fitting for this clown:

All hail the champion! BMW drivers are bar none, the worst around. They have managed to achieve that elusive combination of disdain, money, attitude, disregard for others, and self-importance that no other drivers have. BMW drivers don't just not care about you … they HATE you. They hate having to share the road with any other driver. They hate those who drive what they consider sub-standard cars (i.e. any car not costing over $40,000) because they are losers. They hate those who drive Mercedes, Lexus, etc because they are stuffy or old. They hate those who drive SUVs because they take up too much room. They hate those who drive Porsches, Corvettes, and other big-bicks sports cars because those drivers don't drive fast enough. They even hate other BMW drivers because they can't stand that anyone else has their car. BMW drivers are generally white 40-somethings with a wife and three kids, plus a mistress on the side. They tend to be largely lawyers or investment bankers, whose philosophy is that the world is here to serve them, and it is doing a bad job of it. They mistreat and underpay their illegal Honduran or El Salvadoran housekeepers, and consistently mispronounce their names. Their children are named Kaitlyn or Brittney or Chase or Brendan. They were all in either fraternities or sororities, play golf badly, and revere Tiger Woods for being a credit to his race. They are the scum of the earth, and are truly deserving the title of the worst drivers around. If you want to have fun, do yourself a favor and cut a BMW driver off without acknowledging him. Then when he honks his horn or gesticulates at you, give him the bird. The audacity of your display will send him into a rage the likes of which will provide you with hours of enjoyment as you recall how many shades of purple his face became as he cursed you out for soiling his planet with your existence.

Oh, and if you don't agree with that, then try this one on:

BMW drivers are the worst on the road, according to a poll of 21,000 motorists.

They were followed by those behind the wheel of luxury makes Subaru, Mercedes, Land Rover and Porsche.

Those quizzed named old people as the biggest danger on the road.

Boy racers were second, followed by white van men, cabbies and bus drivers.

The survey for Auto Trader magazine also learned Sundays are the worst day for motoring, then rush hour and the school run.

And women were seen as dodgier behind the wheel than men.

You are out of your mind!(if you ever had one)
You need to redirect your hatred into something more productive. (an education might be a good idea)

Oh boo hoo...you can't handle/don't like the truth? Go check out the survey...I wasn't one of the 21,000 surveyed, but had I been, I would have voted the same way...Now my previous post, that's just plan funny and as I'm sure most people would find that description accurate...

If you can't make a decent car just make more models so that the fools buy them, look magic more car sales.
