BMW is poised to reveal its new 3-series GT later this week, ahead of its Geneva motor show debut. Undisguised pre-production prototypes of the GT, the third model in the new 3-series lineup after the saloon and estate, have already been spotted on the roads around BMW’s Munich headquarters. They have revealed a car with more resolved looks and proportions than the larger 5-series GT.Insiders have also divulged much of the BMW 3-series GT’s technical secrets ahead of its official unveiling online tomorrow (Thursday). At around 4825mm in length, the new model is set to be some 200mm longer than the 3-series Touring on which it is based, with 110mm of that increase within the wheelbase. Height is set to increase by around 80mm to 1510mm, with width getting a small 20mm gain to around 1830mmChicago Auto Show Preview Photo GalleryChicago Auto Show Preview Photo GalleryRead Article

Another fail of the same level of the 5GT....i do not get it...They need to be concentrated in the cars that will save BMW. 2GC is a great High volume car that will put an stumbling block on the road of the CLA and will give them a lot of Money, but one more time, they will allow MB to take the lead to follow them in 2 or 3 years...Bad move.— Yonder7 (View Profile)

Why would BMW need saving? It's the no.1 luxury car manufacturer in the word? It has the most valuable car brand in the world and has been showing growth year on year for forever. Honestly, you make it seem like they're SAAB and it's not to say the 2GC won't be released, it probably will but right now no sales or brand evaluation statistics support your statement.— Firewombat (View Profile)

Pondosinatra or Angryinch1, Oh you have a new name now. Question. If I said what you just said but about a Toyota or a Lexus, you would have an issue with that right? oh yeah... What happened to the "kitty" avatar? That one was really cute.— LexSucks (View Profile)

May people will find the slightly elevated ride height, and added utility of the hatchback attractive. It's a good compromise between the dynamics of a wagon, and the elevated riding position of an SUV without SUV gas mileage, and handling..Obviously this is not very popular among the teenage car blog crowd, but it does have its markets in Asia, and even among maybe a slightly older(mature) crowd in the US.— bmwm6 (View Profile)

Firewombat: The numbers say that they are lagging and is not a good trend for a company that use to sale more than every body. The sales of the 3, 5, 7, and even the cheap series is BAD. Specially when you consider that all those are brand new models. I like this brand but HATE their current trend cause if that continue ....they will need to be SAVED...This car is another waste of resources...— Yonder7 (View Profile)

Here goes BMW once again producing a car which they think there is a market for, but will once again realize there is no market for such a vehicle. The 5-Series GT has already caused BMW's production costs to increase and its sales have been much lower than BMW predicted (see link below):http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1060376_bmw-5-series-gt-a-flop-stealing-sales-from-more-expensive-7-seriesThe 3-series GT will be a sales disaster just like the 5-Series GT.— GermanNut (View Profile)

Agree with above, awkward design..dud, do a good 335i wagon with the M package and AWD, or as also suggested above do something with a slight nod to offroading like the allroad from Audi. Oh and retain the hofmeister kink.— valhallakey (View Profile)

Better watch out; when you speak the truth on how ugly this is, the BMW fan boys "can't handle the truth" (remember the movie with Jack Nickelson). I've owned several BMW over the years, and this has to rank as one their ugliest. The true car enthusiast know this will be a failure; just like the 5 series GT. They don't need it; it will have a negative impact on their sales and some of us loyal BMW folks who enjoyed their cars when they were a little smaller and better performance know this is NOT BMW TRUE heritage. In about 2 years or so, I will post a big "I TOLD YOU" on how awful this vehicle sold in terms of sales volume. This car will have many lease specials when people shun this car. (Stay with what got you recognized)— gkearns56 (View Profile)

I think it,s better proportioned than the 5GT. But then everything is relative, two times zero is still zero. Nobody does hatchback/fastback sedan better than Citroen. This will sell in Europe because Europe likes fastback sedan but this will not sell in N.A., especially the US.— nguyenvuminh (View Profile)
