BMW Aims To Sell More Than 100,000 M3s
BMW aims to sell more than 100,000 units of its fourth-generation M3 high-performance car.

With every new generation of the M3, BMW has succeeded in raising sales. The M3 is a performance version of the 3-series coupe.

“With every new model, we want to offer a better product and sell more,” said Carsten Pries, product manager of BMW’s M division, at the car’s launch here. M is the name that BMW gives to its performance cars unit.

You know what? For once I would like to have a Lexus IS-F 'free' day. What does the Lexus IS-F have to do with every freakin article on this website?

It's truly getting in the way of progressive dialogue and opinions from actual enthusiasts who really care about the subject matter at hand. Stupidity like this, is tarnishing it all for the rest of us.

WHY?!

Well, if they keep the new M3 for the next 7 years they better sell some cars ... After all, the old M3 was around for quite a lot of time.

Anybody knows how many M3 (old model) did they sell ?

Yes very outdated. Anyway 06GS666, the BMW is a very masculine looking car anyone would agree, unlike Lexus they all look very feminine. Everytime I see a guy in a GS, IS, ES, SC, RX, LX, HX, whatever they call them toys I wonder if the guy a sissy or something.

100,000 is definitely not alot if they are going to sales for the next 7-8 years. But only time will tell, it kind of hard because it not even out yet.

But this year the competition is bit harder with the current Audi RS4, Lexus IS-F, MB C63 AMG and the new CTS-V with close to 500hp.

The new CTS & CTS-V model line is being positioned more as an M5 & 5-series competitor. Cadillac plans on introducing a new BLS model to act as a true 3-series competitor, & upping the anti with the STS to make it a true 7/A8/LS/S-Class competitor.

And what about the DTS? A Bentley competitor? In my opinion the only thing that could make Cadillac back alive like it used to be is build the DTS like the Sixteen concept.

Honestly, how would the discussion have gone here if "Lexus" wasn't mentioned? I guess we'll never know!

well, considering that more than half of the e46 m3 owners owned an smg version and didnt know how to drive stick, im guessing that bmw's goals will have to wait. the cost will also prevent even more of the boy racers from fulfilling their dream. lol.

100,000 is a LOT for a M car. Isnt M supposed to mean something exclusive and special? I love to see it on the road but not at every stop light w/ a spoiled kid driving it.

its funny when the criticisms of the m3 are deboosted when the m3 is the subject matter itself while the criticisms of others' comments are boosted when they have no relevance whatsoever to the subject matter.

what a worthless system.

BMW will sell whatever number of M3's it wishes to -- all it must do is sell it at the right price. Unless disaster strikes, they shouldn't have a problem moving 18,000 per year globally.

I never did understand the boost thing -- does a boost mean:

a) one agrees with the comment, or
b) the comment contributes new FACTS to the discussion, or
c) the point raised in the comment is something that should be discussed further?

Not at $63,000! BMW is not going to sell anywhere near 100,000 M3 at that price. The current M3 was around $55,000 well equipped, and it only sold around 90,000 units. If BMW wants the new M3 to sell well, they need to release it at around $55,000 or less.

I don't think its to high a target seeing as the new M3 will come in sedan and apparently wagon form as well. This will interest buyers who wouldn't of considered an M3 before for practicality reasons. Also I read that the new M3 will be $53,975 base.

That makes more sense for BMW. If it's true, and the M3 will come in at a base price around $53,975 ($14,000 more than the base 335i twin turbo), the M3 may sell 100,000 units this time. I am excited for to see the sedan version coming out after the coupe's debut. I'm not interested in the wagon, but there is a market here in the US for it. Great post, Kinger. Boost.
