A BMW M2 will be launched as a flagship performance model for BMW's new 2 Series range. According to BMW insiders we spoke to at the launch of the M235i, a new M2 Coupé 'makes a lot of sense' A source confirmed that a road-going version of the M235i Racing (a track-only customer race car) was considered for production. However, the plans were then scrapped when it was decided that it would “step on the toes of something else higher up the range.” Our source added that this refers to a new M car. A new BMW M2, shown in our exclusive illustration, is expected to use a twin-turbocharged version of the M235i’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine. Maximum power output should be in the region of 380bhp, compared to the M235i's 322bhp figure, while leaving enough space to the 425bhp BMW M3 Saloon and M4 Coupe.
