BMW abandoned its 2008 earnings forecast and cut production on Tuesday after a 60-percent plunge in quarterly profit that underscored slowing sales in the troubled autos industry.



The woes facing the world's biggest premium brand automaker followed the worst month in 25 years for the industry in the United States, BMW's largest market, including big setbacks for U.S. giants General Motors.

The difference is that Lexus will have an almost all-hybrid lineup to really bump up sales over the next 5 years, while BMW
will still be licking their wounds from this economic downturn.

FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Audi AG reaffirmed its full-year forecast for a rise in revenue and earnings that reflects an increase in sales to a record 1 million vehicles, it said on Wednesday.

Turnover in the first nine months gained 2.1 percent to 25.80 billion euros ($32.88 billion), while operating profit grew by 13.6 percent to 2.06 billion, the company reported in its quarterly update.

The company stuck to its target of selling 1 million Audi brand vehicles this year, with a corresponding rise in sales and earnings.

In 2007, the Ingolstadt-based carmaker sold 964,151 vehicles, generated some 33.6 billion euros in revenue and posted an operating profit of nearly 2.71 billion.

Audi said that the continued instability in refinancing markets posed a general risk, particularly for sales financing.

"The Audi group profits in this situation however from the overall solid liquidity position and conservative refinancing policy of the Volkswagen group," it said in its update.

Audi clearly outperformed its larger luxury rival Mercedes-Benz Cars of Daimler, which was forced to lower its profit forecast for a second straight quarter last week on impairment losses at its U.S. leasing business. BMW, the world's largest luxury maker by volume, is said to make announcement that it too will not be able to meet its profit forecast.

Earnings before interest and taxes at Mercedes fell 26 percent to 2.48 billion in the first nine months, and it now expects full year margins to fall to about 5 percent due to charges of 449 million euros related to falling prices of cars coming off lease.

Audi revenue for first 9 months the Company boosted revenue by 2.1 percent to EUR 25,799 (25,260) million.
=25 billion.

BMW Group, with revenues of euro 40,425 million, was nevertheless able to maintain nine-month revenues at the previous year's high level. Adjusted for exchange rate factors, Group revenues for the nine-month period were up by 5.1 %.

You know nothing, your ignorance and stubbornness have no equal, even MichaelTaylor was not that stupid.

Please, do me a favor, log on to Reuters.com and search the stock market value of BMW and Audi in Europe.
Here, I help you;
BMW share= 22.50 euros
Audi share= 451 euros

It is not a typo, I swear.
So, if it was not for the "anti-trust" law in europe, Audi could turn around and just buy BMW for breakfast and spit out the crumbs at lunch.

Why, because Audi outsells BMW pretty much everywhere in the world but here in the US.
But if it had not been for the "60 minutes" episode in 1986, that might be also the case here. For your information, in 1986, at a time you were still in your dad's balls, Audi was outselling BMW by roughly 20K unit a year. (70K vs 50K).

So take you same old same old arguments, based on nothing but ignorance and being a stupid fanboy and go somewhere else.
Do some research on your own, if you know how to use a computer other than spill your ignorance on this website, you should be able to read news on your own.
Don't be afraid, you will be fine. I know the truth can hurt, but you will be fine.

1evaudi, please open up your eyes. BMW AG doesn't share platforms with smaller brands, which in turn help its market value. If you were to look at strictly Audi vs. BMW then your beloved car company would not present itself so strongly. BMW was and still is considered to be the WORLD's numbers one premium automaker.

The next point where you stated that Audi had a small decrease in sales while BMW dropped significantly. Well when you don't sell to many cars, then its easy to show small decreases. When you sell as many cars as BMW its easy to show larger losses. (IE a car that is $100,000 will depreciate much more than a $30,000 car)

As for the individual with the Hybrid comment. Lexus is a joke and so is Hybrid. They leave a worse carbon footprint on the environment than a gas powered vehicle. Also BMW is in bed with a few large automakers to create a real version of Hybrid. Do your research then comment. It will have a transmission hybrid as well as an engine hybrid to create real efficiency.

BMW said that profit for the third quarter dropped 63 percent as the global economic turmoil made consumers more reluctant to buy its sports and luxury cars. The company, based in Munich, said net profit for the July-September period fell to 298 million euros ($375.5 million), from 803 million euros a year ago.

What I posted were revenue figures not profit. And the revenue figures I posted are true look up bmws 3rd quarter report. Yes there Profits are down from last year, but there revenues nearly double Audi's.

and as for the stock price, you obviously know nothing about stocks, just because the price of Audi's shares are higher then BMW means nothing, you have to look at the volume or shares outstanding of the stock. BMW volume is around 6 million, Audi's is around 10 thousand.

Let's see BMW income growth at sales around 1.3 million (do your figures include Mini, if so you cannot count them) is a negative 32.60% and the net profit margine is 4.87% while Audi's income growth is +35.80% at less than 1 million units with a higher net profit margin. So, who is actually doing better? Sorry not your precious poser wannabe. These are the numbers that count for long term growth and viability. Of course, BMW has a higher sales figure as they sell around 300,000 units plus currently, yet how is it that their income growth is negative and their net return on profit is less than Audi yet they have higher sales? Increase in Sales growth with shrinking net profit margin and negitive income growth somehow don't spell success. Thanks for the info though, maybe amazing douche can read it too especially with his great education he attests too.

These figures don't say anything seriously positive about BMW right now. Don't know why you are throwing them out. So what, of course higher volume is giving BMW higher income, yet income growth is negative with a poor net profit margin. Nothing to write the Quandts home about.

But amazing douche will wet himself over it.

yes BMW does sell only 300K cars more and yet there sales nearly double Audi's, 57bill to 33bill. Yes, there income growth is down, for this year but this trend will reverse itself in time when the market turns around, and BMW was effected more by the market because aside from selling cars they also have a large financial branch, which was hit hard in the finacial crisis, but you can count on it turning around.

Year over year, BMW Group has been able to grow revenues from €37.9B to €42.1B. Most impressively, the company has been able to reduce the percentage of sales devoted to income tax expense from 3.30% to 1.76%. This was a driver that led to a bottom line growth from €2.9B to €3.1B last year.

Audi AG has been able to grow revenues from €31.1B to €33.6B. This was a driver that led to a bottom line growth from €1.3B to €1.7B.

Audi is among the least leveraged companies in the Automobiles industry and has a Debt to Total Capital ratio of 5.98%. Audi is also among the least efficient in its industry at managing inventories, with 31.03 days of its Cost of Goods Sold tied up in Inventories.

BMW has been successful for much longer then Audi one sub par year wont change anything.

Growing revenues with a nice net return in profit per uit is what's all about. Selling volume without profit margin increases or low ones and no income growth doesn't sound too good. Hopefully, little beenie recover some day so all you beenie fans can jump for joy. Audi's net profit per unit has been averaging higher than BMW for several years. Stop with BMW fanboy stuff already and give Audi credit for being quite successful as has BMW. I assume you do not want to be considered in the same light as amazingidiot.
