BMW M1 Hommage Concept - Is BMW Targeting the Lexus LF-A and Acura NSX?
BMW M1 - A car with a historic past, and one that BMW is toying with the idea of bringing back again.  Several months ago we showed you some pictures of the M1, and today we are back with more photos of the M1.

Although BMW is being coy on official details, what we do know is that just about every engine BMW has would fit in the engine bay of the M1, and from that standpoint could make for a very exciting and competitive car.

Perhaps on par with the forthcoming Acura NSX or Lexus LF-A perhaps.

Check out the pictures and let us know what you think of the new BMW concept.

Be sure to check out the Mercedes Fashion Week Gallery as well with over 900 girls in bikinis!

It is a very good looking car, BMW managed to get so many details from the original M1 into this and make it look more modern. Hopefully we will se another M1, and i know it will only get som details from the Hommage Concept.

WTF??
Here goes the lunatic with the animal references again!!!

Go do your homework (finger painting)....

Great looking auto...nice job striking a balance between paying homage to the M1 and moving it forward!!

I know that they are not even thinking about the Japanese with this auto, more up-market offerings from the Italians I think are the inspiration for this new concept.

very cool car. definitely won't blend in with the other exotics on the road!

and, yeah, bmw is reviving a 30-year old marque to compete with a CONCEPT from a company that has never been in the performance segment. lol

Does anyone remember Vector in the early 90s? That's what the side profile reminds me of. Other than the eyes looking too squinted, it's a nice concept.

The Vector may well have gotten some of its inspiration from the original M1 of the 1970's.

Better yet, review the specs on a 335i, before you start assuming the inline 6 is a 3.5L.....it's a 3.0L TT.

This M1 concept is definitely one of the Ugliest thing I have seem this year. Come on..., can they come up with something better?

The best looking concept from BMW was the M10 Concept I belief, and here the link,

http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/bmwm10.jpg

They should've built this M10/Z10 concept instead of this FUGLY rice up M1 concept.

Star- You just saved me a lot of typing. I concur with you. BMW will not lose any sleep over a car that Toyota might build. BMW actually has history to reach back to. BMW still needs to do an interior buck for the car, but they have 3 engines to choose from to put in it. We will see!

Badge Whores?? You are the one with Lexus in your name.
It is just too difficult for you to like anything outside of your narrow biased comfort zone. Most people can at least throw kudos to a mftr who is moving the competitive bar forward. I like BMW because they are one mftr who seems to constantly strive to do that.

While copying is the sincerest form of flattery(Lexus)I don't find it inspiring.

If you any idea about cars or even seen the original M1 you would know that the Hommage is truly a more modern version of the original, they did nok make a new supercar just making a supercar from 1978 looking more modern, they celebrate its 30 birthday.
In Denmark we had two M1 one was a rich man who owned a travelling agency (simon Spies) the other car was uses on the racetracks by Jens Winther. The car costed more than an ferrari when it came out.

In an era where so many cars look the same or somehow manage to look generic even when you cannot say exactly what they look like, BMW manages to reach out into its history and create something that you clearly can see bears a striking link to the past, yet manages to break new design ground with a look which will be sexy 10-15 years in the future and is still drop dead gorgeous yet testing.

Well done BMW!

before you make fun of 00J, check the photo of the rear of the car where you can read the license plate. What's it say? "M1 HOMMAGE".

According to BMW, and I'm not going to look it up to verify, "hommage" is the french spelling. If it isn't then BMW screwed up, not 00J. But I'm going to go out on a limb and assume BMW had someone check before showing off their flagship concept.

I'm not embarassed. Why in the world a german car company would use the french spelling of a word and its subsequent use use in an english language article...if that's the stupidest thing I post, I'm still light years ahead of 99.9% of the folks around here, TYVM.

Additionally, Agent00J's track record in this department isn't exactly impeccable of late, so I was poking some fun at him.

"Prancing Donkey" your taste is in your mouth -

This is a dynamic concept car that clearly stands apart with its own identity and heritage.
You are lost in the ether (of your own farts)...with a very low bandwith for any design language that stretches your nominal imagination.

You need to get out more.

Wow really, lexus and acura? What about the Audi R8, you know the car thats been receiving absolutely amazing reviews for the past year and a half! That is the car BMW is after. The LF-A and NSX are both front engine cars, though they would have similar stats and be in basically the same class, they would drive COMPLETELY differently!
BMW is targeting the R8 and the 911 for sure... only thing is this car is too retro. This car is attractive and interesting as a concept and very significant as it is an homage to a great car. But it is not what BMW will be bringing in to compete in todays world. While it presents very interesting details, the overall shape of the car is very 80's and 90's. This is not the supercar of the new millennium.
Both Audi and Porsche have extremely beautiful attractive and aggressive cars on the market to compete with the M1. this concept compared to the R8 looks absolutely hideous.
That said, I think that as this is a concept, if BMW chooses to produce a new M1 they will use a lot of the same technology and maybe a few of the design cues used on this concept but bring it into a more competitive 21st century shape. At which point it will probably be one of the most amazing cars on the road.

I'm a fan of BMW cars, currently own 3, but this one even if it were available would be out of my price range. Now as for its looks, love the front, hate not crazy for the rear. This is a concept car and if its made, will change. I assure you guys that if this car come to market, it will be beautiful, and very pricy.
