Top ten of the choices for desired employement for graduates. Considering that BMW is a high quality home turf employer, that would make sense. Doesn't mean anything other than they are a good company to work for.

Matter of fact they are all german. So what was the original scope of the survey and the source?

If I read the translated survey correctly from the web.

The survey had a few caveats.

1. Of the recent graduates the top ten were only those that wanted to work for a LARGE employer IN Germany.
2. Only 2000 Students were surveyed and their disciplines were:
a. Food Services
b. Social Services
c. Religious Service
d. Nature Services
e. Engineering Services

Not what I would call the “Elite” of graduates (where are the financial services and business management folks?)

3. Key reasons why they are considering the top ten in order:
a. Job Security
b. Advancement
c. Further Training
d. Business philosophy


So I guess if I were graduating college in Germany with a Food Service Degree and wanted to work for a large stable company and be able to run multiple kitchens. BMW might be the ticket for me too.

Blanket statement are easy to make, and hard to defend.

Engineers accounted for only 1 of the five segemnted groups. But by and large the big draw was job security, advancement, training. BMW happens to have these. It has little to do with them being "An Independent Company", it mearlt reflects a progressive company with stability and room to grow. Lot of companies have that. It in no way means BMW is superior to the others. BTW they were all heavy hitters.

Now this is a survey, so don't put to much faith in it.

Nevertheless in Germany, in the last few years only BMW has been a major employer.

DC AG, VW AG, GM Opel have all fired people, wereas BMW has hired (and Porsche too, but they are small).

What's surprising to me is that Audi is low on this survey.

And they have doing great lately.

illogical- Pea size brain? This is from the guy that tried to average percentages a few months ago! LOL Good luck with the GED. BTW since this is a small survey and the spread is not given, (IE: 60% BMW vs 40% for the other top nine combined) We can chalk it up as another worthless survey.

There simply is not enough data given for it to be worthwhile. What if 90% of the food service graduates wanted to work for BMW vs 20% of the engineers? Or of those surveyed, 100 were engineers and the 1900 had other disciplines? You see what I mean? It can be skewed easily.Without that data the only thing that can be contrived is that the largest percentage of those surveyed wanted to work for BMW.

The statement that it is because BMW is independent is a leap. His statement made it sound like that was the draw, when in reality, they have a excellent benefits package and percieved job security.

efoxS4 is correct. Most of these cars are wonderful machines. The relatively minor distinctions that we all fret about pale by comparison with the overall excellence of many of these vehicles. Variety is indeed the spice of life, and the fact that you might prefer one car's aesthetics while I prefer another isn't cause for WWIII. Different features attract different buyers; and let's face it, the majority of the buyers of most of the cars built simply do not focus on the characteristics that are of singular significance to either gearheads or design snobs (yes, I do count myself among both of these minority classes). So why not share the interest rather than flame someone with a different point of view? After all, if there was only one "best" vehicle, then I suppose everyone would be driving it. And that would make for a rather dull world, wouldn't it?

This is old news actually. I read about something similar many years ago. BMW apparently is a good employer in Germany, so kudos to them. Last I heard, Audi was catching up. Don't know about the others.
