BMW Recalls 29,250 Sedans, SUVs to Fix Engine Stalls
Oct. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is recalling 29,250 5 Series and 6 Series sedans and X5 sport- utility vehicles to fix a static electricity problem that can cause their V-8 engines to stall.

The recall, affecting 2006 and 2007 models, was announced today by the Washington-based National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on its Web site.

The problem involves the engine's electronic control unit, when temperatures are below freezing and humidity is low, according to a NHTSA defect report. Under those conditions, an electrostatic discharge can occur at pipes that deliver fuel to the engine's injectors, causing the control unit to malfunction.

Dealers will attach grounding cables in the engine compartment free of charge, according to the document. Vehicles affected are the 550I and 650I from model years 2006 and 2007, and the X5 from 2007.

That would be the usual response. I find it hard to believe that its actually adults posting on this site at times. Anywa, fair play to BMW for issuing the recall.

Having said that, I can't help but wonder what the motivation for a Lexus fan posting this article was. Hmm...

What's the point of negative comments anyway? I'm glad I'm not an adult yet. :)

There is no shame to do recalls and fix some issues. I feel that responsible brands do this to satisfy and fidelized their customers.

i wonder how many posts went on from german fanboys about Lexus pedal recall, questioning their reliability...

BMW did a good thing in making it a recall...and not hiding it.

Actually, BMW isn't even close to being #1 in recalls.

That crown would either go to GM or Toyota.

The first rule of war it to have a proper defense.

Lexus has been drug through the mud lately. So the knee jerk reaction would be to hit back at the competition when you get the chance.

In the overall scheme of things this recall is minor.

I would not expect that kind of response frmo u, 009. To be fair, Lexus is doing just fine, angry bloggers notwithstanding. I would hardly think that a couple of mediocre reviews while they continue to sell in record numbers constitutes being dragged thru the mud. How much criticism haave Bangle-ized Bimmers, broken down Audis and over-priced Mercs endured, yet they are all doing fine too. The world does not revolve around our petty disagreements or Car and Driver's biases.

That being said, thank you Xero for posting this. I was surprised (not really) that it hadnt made the Autospies roster earlier. By now there would have been six threads, 2 by agents, one by omarrana, and the rest by haters, if this had been a Toy/Lex recall. So let them throw sour grapes at u, but this wasnt a recall for loose floor mats, right????

LOL! You posted elsewhere that someone's elses bias was unbelievable. S4 I think it was...and look at you, always advertising Toyota/Lexus. What exactly is a "proper" SUV, and don't say one that doesn't break down, that applies for all cars. Shame the design department isn't a proper design department, all of them are ugly. I mean look at the RX, a mechanic could get lost in between the body work and the top of the wheels the space is so large.

Czelinski,so isn't it true?

LX470,GX470,RX350,Land Cruiser,Prado,Rav 4...etc are just bulletproof.

and I just said 'proper' and not some wild and idiotic claims like S4cabriofox (R8 is the best period...etc)

"Shame the design department isn't a proper design department, all of them are ugly"

Design is highly subjective.Same can be said about new BMWs or Audis. Some like them some don't.

but engineering wise Toyota/Lexus is second to none.

and these German SUVs recalls are displaying poor engineering.

Oh SHUT UP! That is just MY OPINION! You cannot take away from that!

There is nothing idiotic about that statement. In fact, I even have REASONING. I don't like it because it's an Audi. I like it because it's AMAZING.

It's a good thing BMW isn't Toyota or else this would be yet another "worst recall in the history of recalls". Since it isn't Toyota, move along, nothing to see here.

What's that philosophical thing that that retard keeps saying? Something about blah blah blah when we practice to deceive?
