OK, so, yesterday BMW came out of right field with a surprise introduction of an all-new 1-Series. The "is" version takes a lot of after the 3-Series variant in terms of some slight modifications to the top of the line 1-Series.

But there's a bit of a problem with that concept and you may not realize it until you get down to the price. The 2013 "is" bases at $44,145; however the 2011 1M was on the market for $47,010.

The major difference between the "is" and 1M is that the 1M wasn't just some bolt on additions to beef up the 1-Series to make it an M-car. Essentially, that's what the "is" is. The 1M actually featured A LOT of the M3's components slapped onto a 1-Series.

THAT is what made the 1M so great. It really was an M3-light with a unique looking bodykit and the bi-turbo N54 powerplant.

If you were even THINKING about the 135is you should halt all thoughts now. Go see if you can scour down a remaining 1M, which at this point may require a lot of effort. But having driven that vehicle, I know it's worth it.

The ONLY way that a 135is could possibly make sense for a buyer would be if you really are interested in the M135i that we showed you last night. Both vehicles share the same powertrain, the N55 single turbo motor with 320 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque.
