BMW V-Series Full Scale Prototype Spy Photos
A new BMW prototype has hit the roads in Munich, and it appears to be the first full-fledged tester for BMW’s long-rumored V-series. The car’s radically sloping backlight is pure hatchback, as it leaves no room for a proper trunk lid. The side window profile appears to slope downward similar to the X6, but the overall roofline arc is taller, allowing for more headroom in back, and the rear hatch looks more cargo-friendly.

This is getting ridiculous. 535/550iT, X5, X6, now V5/6? Whyyyyyy? The X6 is useless enough as it is since the X5 and 5er Touring provide the best of both worlds. It seems like there are two useless but perhaps good looking models in between, and those are the V and X6.

Like I posted in another thread, a car like the S4 Avant provides much more fun, performance, equal practicality, luxury, prestige, and better looks than the X6, for a smaller price tag (albeit, about 10k Canadian, less).

Aside from pointing out that my userID is Hyundai, do you have the mental capacity to dispute my comments?

I thought you were taking your medication Hyundai. You were making some semblence of sense recently, but that didn't last long.

How can you compare the performance of a vehicle that hasn't even been released? All you are doing is exposing your bias while appearing childish and intellectually underdeveloped.

If an auto company like BMW sees a market for a car -especially an independent car company that cannot afford many mistakes- I will respect at least their attempts to explore it. Regardless of who it is.

Little to soon to condemn something you know nothing about. Be intellectually curious, have an opinion, but don't paint yourself into a corner like you did with the X6 that you called ugly before it was announced and now admit it is attractive.

It is called being an adult. Good luck with that.

OK, I admit, you are right.

Being adult, I cannot criticize the proportions of the X6 before it is released in the sheetmetal. How immature of me to say that the X6 looked ugly in profile - I must be 17.

Nevermind, too, that I said the S4 Avant would have better performance than the V or X6. Again, so juvenile of me. May I have your wisdom and perfection too? Please?

At least give me some more IQs.. My owner KNOWS I could use some of them..

Hyundai: "At least give me some more IQs"????

I believe that ship has sailed.

I rest my case.

Bye,Bye

I will let you think that you won that one there. After all, you could use the victory to boost your meager self-esteem.

I admit I'm a huge bmw fan, but I think this may be overkill.I just don't see why anyone would want a expensive minivan styled vehicle, especially when you have great options like the x5 and now the hotttt x6....I personally don't like the r-class at all.I'm sure the bimmer will look better , but i just don't think they need this v class at all.I definitely think If they refined the cs concept (especially the front) and took off two doors, it would make a fantastic 8 series.

When are they coming out with a SL fighter. I could care less about another hatch. They have the 1 series and X6 to take mass sales from it's competitors, now they need to up the ante against Mercedes SL. They f uped with the beautiful 8 series by making it too heavy, and the 6 series is a 4 place lux GT. BMW needs a piece of those sales, pronto.

Yes, a hi-po coupe version to compete with the R8 and 911, but a convertible to merit SL550 and XKR comparisons.

An 850i or M8 does sound good right now...

They have been doing a pretty good job hiding their cars lateley, as far as i know this could be a coupe. ha

The R-Class has been a disaster for Mercedes. Why is BMW contemplating entering this segment that is best suited to Chrysler or Honda? People who normally buy minivans are not looking to spend $40,000plus.

Really? Because high-end Odysseys and Siennas really can go over $40K somewhat easily.

This will be well into the 50s if BMW has its way. It does.

I don't think it makes sense, either, but it's just not making a big impression on me right now (like the X6 or R-Class did). It's just, "Oh, wow. Another niche model. Great."

While I praise BMW for venturing into some new territory or some already explored by other companies, I feel maybe BMW is spreading itself around too much in these "niche" markets. I remember when BMW came out with the X5...people gasped, people gawked, people were horrified. A BMW SUV??? But it was a success. Now they create the X6... an Infiniti FX, Range Rover Sport competitor... It looks a little strange but not bad. Now the V.... Hmmm... While I understand the want to compete with Mercedes... I wonder if BMW is not making too many of these cars... or SUVs, or SAVs or whatever their current catch phrase is. Now since the world seems to be realizing that gas guzzling SUVs are not in vogue anymore.... I would love to see a few back-to-basics, fun to drive BMWs... compact, rear drive, sporty, and void of iDrive. I know the 1 Series is out and a coupe is here and will be available... but it looks a bit of an afterthought... Come on BMW... niche marketing is fine, but this may be overkill.

They don't even need to "compete" with Mercedes! The R-Class hasn't set any sales records.

And anyway, BMW is on top. They don't NEED a niche product to stay alive. They are more profitable and successful than they ever have been; it just doesn't make sense. The X6, like the new Audi R8, is more of a celebration of BMW's good fortune; a metaphorical champagne glass. It's fresh, it's sexy, it will sell. But the V5... I don't think so.
