BMW X5 clone banned from Germany
BMW's fight to protect its X5 SUV from being cloned and sold at retail by Chinese manufacturer Shuanghuan has taken a strong step forward.

A decision in Munich regional court today banned the sale of the copycat car, vindicating BMW’s long-standing belief that it has a legal right to protect the design of its vehicles from such imitation.

The model in question, which Shuanghuan calls the CEO, is clearly modelled after the BMW X5, though there are some styling differences.

Not sure. But it's like shopping in Chinatown in NYC. You know the item you're buying is fake but you'll get it because they so much like the real thing even if the quality suck a$$.

From an Editorial Review of the book "One Billion Customers: Lessons from the Front Lines of Doing Business in China" written by a former Wall Street Journal China bureau chief.

"He caps each chapter with gleanings of wisdom ('assume your procurement department is corrupt until proven innocent') and pointers on such topics as which bribes are ethically acceptable (expenses-paid junkets to America 'with generous opportunities for tourism and relaxation') and which are not (suitcases full of cash)."

-

There was also the situation that occurred recently with the blood thinning medicine Heparin. Dozens of people were killed in the US because a supplier in China substituted a cheaper chemical that would not be detected by the screening tests that are done in the States.

And check out this article where a former professor of Chinese history talks about the Chinese' "entrenched habits of social predation".

Bad example of an 'original' Chinese design.

It's actually a clone of the 1st-gen Hyundai Coupe, but with added 'style'.

Some of these car companies need to hire mercenaries to do a little "business remodeling". Copycats plant and business here today, blown up tomorrow. That is the only way to solve the problem, because the Chinese government will not do it.

t is just the cost of doing business in China. Most, if not all, companies are aware that their designs will be copied and that China will learn from their technology and produce a competitive brand within 15 years. The companies still manufacture in China because the cost of producing the items is so less that it is worth the future competition.

A hollow victory. Its good that the Germans stopped the import of this vehicle (would anyone actually buy it is another question) but that doesn't fix the problem that China copies everything else and sells in their home market.

In abuot 20 years, they'll probably stop copying once corporations have taught them everything they know.
As much as I hate to admit, eventually China will surpass the West's technological output if we stay our current course. The handful of Asians here can't compete against the raw power of a billion brains. It doesn't help either that whites over here are infected with jungle fever which results in subsequently dumber and dumber generations of kids.
You'll know we've fallen behind when China cuts back the # of visa students they send here (they still need a few to steal classified stuff).

Ironically, our best hope is if the Chinese basketball teams (all their teams actually) beats the US and gives kids over here a kick in the ass to smarten up. Imagine the riots that would break out if a team of engineers and entrepreneurs outballed a bunch of gangstas.

A fix would be a quick war which would stop trade in its tracks, but Obama doesn't have the balls.

My rant may be politically incorrect, but that's also part of the problem here. The truth hurts and nobody likes to hear it.

This is how they can remain low cost of project while having something looking "acceptable" .

Your rant is not politically incorrect, it is off-topic and racist. You veiled it nicely, probably thought it was too clever for a minority to catch, but you were wrong.

How did you get from cars to unemployment stats by race? Since Asian engineering prowess is such point of pride for you, what do YOU PERSONALLY engineer? What is your contribution to the world? Do YOU have a job?

What 'gangstas' are you talking about? Lebron James? Dwyayne Wade? LOL.

You suggest that 'jungle fever' and miscegenation is responsible for the 'dumbing down' of America. An interracial society bred Barrack Obama. An all-white society bred George W. Bush. Obviously, white people can be stupid without help from anyone else.

You must be a very insecure and sad man with a small penis and unsatisfying sex life. Guys like that always hate negros.

They come up with all kinds of racist crap to make themselves feel better about the fact that they can't satisfy a woman (which at the end of the day is the whole point to a man's life)

Society, government, politics, science, and industry all stem from a man's basic innate drive to posess and satisfy the woman (or women) of his desire. You obviously feel SMALL and threatened by black men.

I don't blame you. It's great to be tall, dark, and handsome - it's something that women of all colors like. If I weren't me, I'd be jealous, too.

I'll bet you that Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony alone will satisfy more Chinese women their first night in Beijing than 100 of the top Chinese scientists and engineers combined will do in a year.

turbo,
For once we're almost on the same page.
True, most nobel prize winners are still mostly American and white (although a lot of the prizes are shared). You have to remember N.America and Europe FUND more research and the Pacific rim for the most part (aside from Japan) has been playing catch-up the last century.
However, you can be sure all the grunt work for these guys was done by Asian students. Walk onto any University and you'll see who makes up the majority of the researchers. Also, I don't count the PEACE, LITERATURE and ECONOMICS categories since they're not science related (for this discussion).

In the last year, 2 major breakthroughs were discovered by Asian-Americans. Concrete that bends instead of shatters for earthquake zones (UofMichigan) and a faster way to create a bird-flu vaccine (Maryland I think). The multi-touch touchscreen was also developed by a Chinese student from a university in NY. Not exactly nobel material but you get the general picture, these handful of brains will have to compete against a few hundred million across the Pacific.

We're about 3% of the pop'n yet we do in the neighbourhood of 50% of the research work.
CNN even had a poll (I'm surprised they showed this) regarding unemployment last week.
Asian 3%
Whites 4.8%
Hispanice 8%
Blacks 9.2%
I think we carry the load quite well, and we don't complain when its so disproportionate. I use the term Asian loosely as most of the work is done by the Chinese and Japanese communities.

I think the solution is that if they copy, they don't sell here, period. I know the Chinese can't wait to start dumping cars in N.America to bankrupt another US company.

We. Who is we? What research and innovation have YOU done? Who are you? If you improve yourself as an individual, maybe you won't need your faulty racial logic to assuage your dissatisfaction with life.

Women don't fantasize about scientists and engineers. They fantasize about big black dudes.

My point is that stereotypes are stupid: you are an Asian, but you are not a scholar or engineer. I am a fully employed and educated black man. of course every race has it's inherent strengths and weaknesses, but at the end of the day we are all playing the same game, looking for the same things out of life. Ultimately your success or failure is dictated by your individual actions and you must choose your own path.

Every Asian isn't a genius, every white guy isn't a racist serial killer, and every black guy isn't a dumb thug.

Why do you thing drug dealers eliminate those who selling the same stuff? Competition is good, but when you are mis-representing the brand by fake products, you effin' with someone's pockets.

By the way, what dealer gave the stuff you smokin' it's some good ish, thank your dealer because if you got some fake ish, you wouldn't have been able to make such wacked out posts...Showing a insecurity of being Asian, and I.R. dating. I won't touch that...

Ignorance is bliss isn't it? Oh well, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make'em drink. The quicker N.A. adopts traditional values (family and education) instead of talking about ass and money all the time, the better off we'll all be.

After they copy and catch up, its going to be scary if China refocuses its resources to research (the research done in N.A. but amplified by about a thousand times).

Where do you suppose the world got writing, printing, gunpowder, navigation etc from? "Art of War" is mandatory for most military academies. Copying is a perpetual cycle.

pushrod,
Typical response. They must all dream of getting knocked up and having broken homes, just like buddy Obama (Mr. Hope and change, then nothing but the same).

I work in IT, I study economics for fun and I'm on my way to my MMSc from UofWaterloo. Research isn't my strength, but I do know how to trend and analyze.
You should study the rise and fall of the Roman Empire and see where Hollywood and MTV has us headed.

If you'd like to talk about sports, we can do that too. I'll surprise you with how far the US has fallen because of complacency.

But like I said, we can compete, but it'd be nice to have some help.

Huu, I been listening to Chris Rock b/f you knew who he was. Bill Cosby was saying the same thing back in the 80's, and yes I have Bill Cosby's book, "Come On People". Yes I do agree about focusing on education and family, but there must be balance as well. All book smarts and no street smarts w/ no swagger means a very lonely dude (Huu is that you?) But we also need to bringing back competition , because that is what America is really about. And talking about ass and money, hell are Capitalist Society, and when you have money, you get the girls. Obviously your statement shows that you get less of that (and the IT part). Yes I'm familiar with the fall of Rome, and also Paul Kennedy'd, "The Rise and Fall of The Great Powers", a classic.

It's just you come off like somebody took yours, you come off as a Hater, and women don't like Haters. Instead, congradulate the playa, but if you see that he can tweak his game, let him know in a good way. Basically, "Don't Down 'Em, Crown 'Em", from Pimpin' Ken's book, "Pimpology". One can learn from many diff people. You just seem like you have some personal issues to sort out. And you aired them out on here.

There's smart capitalism and stupid capitalism (NRT Technologies vs GGW videos), N.A. is trending toward the latter.

Unions destroyed the work ethic over here, now liberalism and the media is destroying the social structure.

You sound pathetic playa man. I play hockey, soccer and rugby AND I can do math when its not converted to grams. Not that you care, my gf already has her masters degree.

If you don't think a country can be smart and athletic, look at China and Japan. China has caught up to us in sports and Japan already can beat N.A. in baseball.
There's only a handful of N.A. industries that are still competitive. But hey, atleast we can out pimp and out ho them right?

Oh well, intelligent people can only do so much. If the west wants to become GM, then thats their choice. All I can do is shake my head and watch the house burn.

If you don't think this has anything to do with automobiles. How many basketball players and drug dealers do you know who can engineer a car? This unwillingness to learn is why the US auto industry is only now learning to adopt better practices from their competitors.
Anyone who can't accept the truth sounds like they simply can't compete and have to hide behind affirmative action.

I don't know who you're talking about, but i compete fine without affirmative action, in fact i own my own business - and i don't give jobs to anyone who isn't black - how about that? You have no real point, you just want to lob thinly veiled insults. But they won't work. I'm the worst kind of negro: educated, overpaid, arrogant, and militant. I thrive on your hatred because i live for spite.

If thinking that makes you happy, go nuts. You might see differently if you get your head out of the sand.

I used to work with hardwording, decent Jamaicans, but they didn't grow up in N.A. nor were they directly exposed to the garbage culture I'm talking about.

Since you must be new, I hate on ALL lazy and stupid people, the ones who feel entitled to everything.

Again, sorry if the truth hurts, but if doesn't apply to you, try not to lose any sleep over it.

Colin Powell vs 50cent, Denzel W. vs Eminem. Guess which two kids look up to and no, they're not both black.

If you don't think those left behind will not affect us, then I really question your credentials. I suppose social services and welfare have no effect on the health of the economy whatsoever.

Do you know how difficult it is to dismiss lazy people due to our laws over here? Probably not eh?

Once you clear your head, go back to my original post that says its good Germany blocked this car, but it makes no difference since in the long run, China will learn and begin to really compete against us. Then I said having lazy asses over here doesn't help those who can compete back and keep us at the forfreont (and they just happen to be disproportionately Asian). You seem to have a problem with this.

pushrod,
I'll add finally that the lesser culture here seems to think you can just sing, dance and break some laws to maintain your position in the world.
You probably don't know this but in Macau, marketers there know people identify with Jackie Chan and NOT Indiana Jones or Tiger Woods (incredible about that last one hmmm?). There goes the N.A. cultural advantage.
Some kids will always be smart, some stupid. The big chunk in the middle can be either, but they're increasingly being influenced to go dumb and told hardwork is for the lame.
So how do you suppose GM, Ford and Chrysler expect to compete if these are the engineers they get to pick from?
If you still feel insulted, that's your problem.

I started laughing after you said China has caught up to the US in Sports...No they haven't. I see no Chinese in breaking W.R. in track and field, and most of the Chinese basketball players have been duds, combine that with all the GH they hae been putting into their basketball players (notice how everybody is 6'9-7 foot--whereas most Chines are short) they been growing the kids, like any other Commie athletic program. The athletes are program, they have no drive like Jordan (Kobe/AI at one time).

No chinese baseball teams are wreaking havoc, no Chinese soccer teams are doing well. No great Chinese bodybuilder, weight lifters. No Chinese rugby teams making the Euros looking bad, no chinese football teams are busting up everybody
We all agree that hard work and education is great, but as i said balance, you should learn from your own culture's concept of Ying/Yang.

And yes, many Jamaicans are are hard working, the ones that come here. but Jamaica is still a third world country. If they could get their act together, they could be a Caribbean version of Japan.

And actually many drug dealers are quite smart, when it comes to marketing and accounting. If applying the skills that they have learn in a positive manner, the effects are mind blowing...

But I ask you, how many of those Chinese engineers have a hot wife, how many of those engineers, get women's panties in a knot? Not to many. Each has their strengths. Your problem is that you don't see a combo, either it's one or the other. And that is devastating and a bad way to look at things. Actually, your speaking on Macau, that is within Asia, so of course since Jackie Chan is a world reknown Chinese actor, it would be common sense. I actually have a pair of his Reebok Pumps running shoes.

Our decline in sports, is due to giving out contracts to "stars" that haven't proven themselves. Which means a dilution in talent.

I think this is not coincidence that the Olympics are right around the corner, and talking this way...Man you are too easy to see thru...

And let's not forget, China as culture as boatload of problems, China as a Country has even more.

As I said before, get your Swagger, and stop Hating, females don't like that. It makes you seem bitter, As a African American dude, I don't hate on any culture or race, but I help out in my community. And I worked hard to get where I'm am. huu76,

i'm not offended. i just think you are misguided in your radical perception of things. you have a right to your opinion. but remember: everyone can't be an engineer or a genius. capitalism thrives on ignorant masses. who will serve cheeseburgers, take out high-interest loans, pick vegetables, wash cars, and peel shrimp in my restaurant?

as long as i am a part of the talented, privileged minority (haves vs. have-nots, not racial), i don't care what happens to everyone else. I pay people peanuts to prep food and then overcharge for cooked food. why would i want the guys working in my kitchen to be as smart as me??? then they would want my pay!

I am not ignorant to your point about kids in the middle being drawn to stupidity. That has been a problem in minority communities forever. It's sad that many kids think it's cool to be dumb. But that's on them. They all end up either dead or in jail.

IS3,
Liu Xiang, world champion hurdler.
http://www.eworldvu.com/international/2007/10/25/beijing-2008-may-produce-olympic-gold-for-china.html
The US gets the bulk of its gold medals in two sports. China got the bulk of theirs in 5 (weightlifting is one of them) and they're improving every Olympics.

Gymnastics and track are the showpiece events in the summer games, China is right up there with the US and Russia now and they've only had a program for about 20 years.
In the winter games, its always the Russians, Chinese and US. However, Japan won the last women's singles gold, something the US hasn't been close to winning in a while.
The US isn't even the best at basketball, tennis or baseball anymore. Hockey is ruled by Canada and Russia.
In 2004, the US had 8 pts, China had 7. Argentina won the gold. The US didn't exactly dominate.
Its your attitude that's going to wake up one day and ask "What happened?".

Whether its in athletics or education, we're starting to fall behind.

I'm cheering for Canada and the US in August, but in basketball, as I said before, we need a kick in the ass and China beating us will have the best effect. The west is getting complacent.

Read this, it asks if GM and Ford are facing bankruptcy and gives a convincing argument.

You obviously read fully my post. I said WR. Not every Olympic record is a WR. Follow me?

I also spoke on the issue of basketball, dilution. And not wanting to work, but most Chinese players bomb, and can't adjust. Run and gun is no fun if you are a 7 footer.

America has already had a kick in the ass when the dream team lost in 2004, if you have been following the the teams that they have been putting together, it will be a beast of a team, they have been besting many of the national teams.

Hopefully Kobe won't bomb, and with Coach K at the helm, maybe his Bluedevil luck will help.

In terms of Education, you should have read The Washington Post magazine article on the Hyper-Qualified college Grads, and what companies are doing to get them. 4 out of the 5 that they highlighted were women, now maybe there is something to that?

GM and Ford facing bankruptcy is their own undoing Ford is car company that builds mostly trucks, and both companies need to start shipping their best products from overseas, pronto. At Least GM has gotten the message.

I remember when C&D did a test on the V8 Lincoln LS, they said that they couldn't find a manual tranny to handle the torque...this the same company that made at the time 390 HP SVT Mustangs. This is the type of mentality, not wanting to put effort into their cars (or the bean counters telling them no). This effectively (and the bland styling) killed a pretty good car for Lincoln.

IS3,
Liu Xiang won gold and it may not be a WR, but its a win when it counts. It wasn't a fluke either, he's won several competitions since.

Yes, Fords shares in the blame along with unions. However, when Toyota was concentrating on developing their entire lineup and new lineups (even if it was at a loss with hybrids), Ford/GM just sat there concentrating on trucks/SUVs thinking the high profit margins will last forever. The short term mentality is plaguing the west, whether its in pop culture, education or government.

The US doesn't produce enough engineers per year that they have to poach ones from Canada and the UK because of our same industry standards. That gives you an idea that the best ideas and work from the US isn't necessarily by Americans anymore.

I would be intersted in reading your Washington Post article.
