BMW X5 has over $20,000 in options???
Drove the new BMW X5 4.8is in Space Grey today at my local BMW dealer.

Its a very good looking SAV. And it drives like you wouldnt believe with the Sport package. There is absolutely no lean or roll whatsoever in the corners, just like a 5-series Sport. And it feels very fast. All in all, an exellent new model.

But I was shoked to see the sticker!!!!! SHOCKED !!!! It had almost 20 grand in options (or in other words, a NEW Mini Cooper) and it wasnt fully loaded?!?!?

I realize that expensive cars are getting even more expensive technology, but how far can this go?

And it also amazes me that the Logic 7 HiFi Radio is standard on the 335i yet optional on the X5. Ditto leather, Sunroof, Nav etc. This stuff should all be standard. And because its not, the price swells ridiculously.

Now a reasonably equipped 6-cylinder model runs about the same as a fully loaded V8 from the last generation.

Dont get me wrong, I Love BMW's, I drive a 330i ZHP and plan on getting a 335i soon, but it looks like their cars are getting so expensive, I might have to rob a bank to make that happen.

Take a look at the new X5 option sheet on a V8 model

I'm buying my wife an A8.

We were thinking about an X5 if she still wanted an SUV (sorry, SAV), but she thought it was "too cheap".

Eat it.

OK. You have this seriously wrong. Many of the packages listed INCLUDE some of the options listed. (eg cold weather pack includes heated front seats, tech pack includes park control, navi,....and so forth.....

The X5 I will be getting (sometime) will be a 3.0is, and will only have premium, navi, cold weather, and rear climate. All others I think are unneeded and only raise the price over 55K.

BMW has kept the starting price low on its latest model but has given nothing nice standard. A compact car comes fully loaded compared to the latest BMWs witout options.

mstangpny07- Seriously Wrong. I think not.

Youre right that certain packages contain some of the options, however the V8 is fully loaded with $23,865 in options. Go see for yourself.

I didn't say it didn't go over 20K. but the list at the top has every option availible, and it is impossible to equip a car like that. That is what I was referring to.

Holy $hit! Just get a Range Rover while you're up there!

WOW!

+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Exactly what I was thinking, the Range Rover Sport Supercharged is the clear winner now, more prestige, looks, offroad capabilities, almost 400 horsepowers, all for the same price..Would be crazy to buy this X3, over the Range..Oh sorry X5..

+2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Or even a real Range Rover! It starts at $80K, and there isn't much where options are concerned, because it's standard with everything anyone would need.

The one drawback is that it's slower than the RR S-S, and the X5. But I think it's worth it for that luxury and those looks.

I agree, the normal Range is fantastic..I really love all Range Rovers, i think they are the undisputed kings of SUV's..Be it the Sport or its big brother..

Most of these things should be standard on a premium vehicle. What's a luxury car without luxury as standard. For example BMW offers leatherette. Why would anyone want a leather alternative. It's basically fake leather.

Dont tell me you think $80.000 is much?
In denmark $80.000 will get you a BMW 320i, you will have to pay $166.000 for the X5 3,0i and for the old model. the 4,4 cost around $224.000 the sport model 4,8Is $ 303.000.

I had to pay $59.000 for my 316i.

we in Denmark have the highest taxes on cars. sadly :(

That must suck. So a Honda Civic would be the price of a Mercedes E-Class. The Civic is only worth like 8K brand new but after all the charges it makes its way up to the tag price you see in the dealer. Well that's what the GM of a Honda dealership here locally said.

Am I the only one that realized this is flawed? Half the options you have listed are included in the packages you selected as well. Cold weather comes with front heated seats, etc.

It's a great vehicle, I had the opportunity to flog one about a week ago and it was pretty impressive for an SAV.

The car has 24,000 in options, and that was confirmed by my BMW dealer.

Anyone that doesnt believe me can go over to BMWUSA.com and see for themselves

For a 3.0L X5, the monthly lease payment will increase about $150 for the average consumer from last years model.

Chip, give us a break.

Who gets running boards, rear climate package, active steering, high def radio, rear seat entertainment, heads-up display, heated rear seats, 3rd row seating... I could go on. That's $5,800 in fake options you're adding to make your article work.

Ventilated seats is another $2,100. Please.

This padding of yours takes out

I can assure you ever option is correct and ventilated seats are in fact 2,100.

Next time before you make a comment like that, check the facts.

I said they were fake options because no one in their right mind gets them, except maybe you. I didn't dispute your figures, which I figured even a baboon like yourself could easily cut and paste from BMW.com.

Audiot, youre the biggest blowhard Ive ever seen. I simply state the X5 is more expensive than the last generation, and you go all bat shit crazy on me for no reason, even going as far as saying Bmw options are fake and that no one orders them. That is the most pathetic reasoning Ive ever heard.

People most certainly do order them and they certainly are expensive. That was my point you moron.

You really are an idiot.

What a rip. I just ordered a Range Rover Sport. $61,000 for a 2007 HSE with luxury and rear locking differentials.

I get everything else standard.
I get nav, bluetooth phone, auto adjusting bi xenons, cherry wood trim, lux leather, etc...

The clear winner is Land Rover.

The '07 X5 4.8is with EVERY option available is still close to $10,000 less than the '06 4.8is with every option.
I am from Canada, and maybe the cold is giving me a bit of brain freeze, but according to my calculation, the '07's are NOT more expensive.

This is why Acura is really cool cuz they have like 2-3 max packages....Lots of standard goodies! Yeah, yeah no V8- Blah! 2007 MDX (V6) or the 2007 BMW X5 (I6)? The only reason I'd see someone taking the BMW X5 over the new MDX is a slightly higher prestige factor.

I'm getting the X5 because:

I don't like the styling on the new MDX

From a previous ownership, the MDX was too big. (Thus my purchase of my X5).

Free service on BMW

In all, previous experiences with the MDX has made a difference.

Did I mention the new MDX is ugly?

U guys r pathetic! Here in the U.A.E , u get a X5 3.0 for like 70,000+. But when ppl here go to a BMW dealer or so, they say, " I want a X5 full options please" lol. They consider it a shame not to buy a full option vehicle!

Your cars r really cheap compared to us.

They strip them out, replace materials with cheaprer ones, only give them big easily engineered engine...

I kinda like it european way better
