BMW X6 M with possible twin-turbo V10
Right on the heels of our X6 hybrid spy photos, shooters in California have captured images of what is believed to be the M version of the newest entry in the BMW lineup.

Although BMW still won’t confirm the M version of the X6, the side vents and dual exhaust on each side give away the true identity of this not-so-mild-mannered X6. Built to compete with Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo, Mercedes-Benz’s ML63 AMG and other high-performance crossovers, the X6 M may very well be in a class of it’s own.

Speculation has this X6 powered by the M’s 5.0-liter V10 with 507-horsepower. However, depending when it debuts, it’s possible the crossover could use the next-generation turbo V10 anticipated for the redesign M5 and M6.

We’re expecting BMW to make an official announcement about the X6 M before the end of the year.

So the X6 will be offered with a TT 6, a TT 8, a hybrid, and a 10 cylinder (possibly with a turbo).

A little something for everyone..

I really don't see the point. I guess it could compete with the Porsche Cayenne, but with gas prices the way they are I just don't see many of these selling.

People who can afford a theoretical X6 M really won't be worried about gas prices. The X6 M probably would not be their primary vehicle anyway. The point is to have something of relative rarity and that's different from anything else. From what i've read -- I haven't driven it yet -- the X6 has amazing handling for a vehicle of its size and weight. A version fortified by the Motorsport gang would be incredible.

What exactly is the use for the Roof Rails ?

The Rearward Slope is so severe that if you mount a Roof Box to it it will Probably lift the vehicle clean off the ground at speeds of over 60mph

If Porsche can sell a 550 hp SUV, then BMW can sell a 600 hp SAV. By nature these hardcore M brands were never meant to have mass appeal, but would attract those uncompromising few that want nothing less than the fastest truck on the planet. Gas prices be damned.

But, to some traditional followers of the M brand, this product may be less about engineering and more about marketing as BMW finally succumbs and puts an M tag on a truck.

GAGS! Nothing is sacred anymore.

Interesting news differences today. Leftlane has an article that speculates that the engine in the X6 will be a twin-turbo V8.

That is just speculation based on what is being said about the next M5; a TT-V8 as opposed to V10.

We shall see.

So the X6 gets an M, but the X3 and X5 do not? Lame, why give the ugly cousin the M badging?

So is this the X6 x-drive MX6, or will it be called the XM6 x-drive-i, or the x-drive-i 6MXM

Is there a point to this vehicle? I like BMW, but this thing is senseless and ugly. More power in an SAV?

The X6, while its not the most attractive car out there, I think it looks okay.

I just don't understand why they are making so many models of this while gas is above 4 dollars a gallon.

How about a V6 and a V8?

Does BMW think that there are that many wealthy gas guzzlers who want a strange looking bimmer out there?

Soccer moms don't need to be going this fast... they already have trouble backing this monstrosity out from a parking spot with it's "zero visibility" feature.

Sounds cool, but How many people really use that kind of power? I seriously doubt most x6 v8 turbos owners are going to be accelerating 0-60 in 5 seconds everytime the light hits green. Theres really no need to have more power than the 3.0 turbo. That has more acceleration and power than any SUV needs anyways. the 3.0 turbo has no trouble merging on to a busy freeway, who really needs the v8 and v10? I'll admit the acceleration is addicting. I run 16psi boost in my 85 745i and I turned it down because it was so damn addicting feeling that boost merging onto the freeway.

You know, if you're going to apply the old "who needs ..." argument, hell, I could ask you who needs the 3.0 turbo? My 2.5 straight six hauls ass, gets 30 mpg at high speed and sounds great doing it. The normally aspirated V8 and V10 motors are for instant response and linear power. And they do make more power and torque than the 3.0 TT. Some people actually use that power to haul things, whether its boats, trailers or their kids.

"powered by the M’s 5.0-liter V10 with 507-horsepower"

Given the angle of that roof line i'm curious what would happen if you were to strap a roof box to this thing and max out the go juice :)
