BMW X6 and X5 Side By Comparison
The X5 driver was trying to block our view of the X6, but he unwittingly gave us an interesting comparison shot between the two sport-activity vehicles. It’s a study in contrasts between style and function, and it will be very interesting to see how the X6 will fare in the marketplace.

Nice pic.

Looks like the X6 has a much lower center-of-gravity than the X5. It should be fun on back-road twisties and re-assurring in open highway traffic. I like it.

I can wait to see the next Infiniti FX for a serious road/track comparison.

I am curious to know if the view off the corners (blinds) is going to be as terrible as the FX.

I actually like it more the more I see it, I like that fastback style. I just wish it had more of a coupe front end instead of an X5 front, and I hope it doesn't have any of the unpainted plastic cladding the X5 has. And it needs the turbo I6 and a more powerful V8 than the X5, too. It has potential though, which is a lot more than I thought six months ago when these photos and videos started coming out.

Nah dont be worried buddy. It is a limited production (even by BMW standards) and will fit a niche. It will do just fine.

Don't be worried - it will be so ugly and expensive that no one will buy them and you'll never see them.

If an X5 stickers at $55K-$60K, I guess this X6 will cost $70-$80K and be smaller/uglier. Since everybody seems to be comparing it to the Infiniti FX45 which is about $40-$50K (and a nice product at that) - no way buyers (i.e. young men) will be ponying up for the X6.

This could be a big miss for BMW.

I can't wait for the 'Aztec' option package to be available - so I can outfit mine in grey plastic lower body cladding. :-)

nybimmer, what did you base your opinion on? People like you said the same thing when the X5 debuted in 2000. Now you tell me if BMW missed then. I think they are a bit smarter than all of us if they decide to go forward with such a niche vehicle.

I based my opinion on my opinion..in my opinion, I belive the X6, under all that camoflage, will be really ugly. When I studied the profile of the X6 in Autospies last post, the profile looked, to me, just like that of the late, lamented Pontiac Aztec and slightly like the Dodge Caliber - neither of which cost $60,000-$80,000.

I think many BMW's are nice looking, including both gens of the X5 - I just don't, in my opinion, think the X6 will be good looking nor a good value for the money.

looks are subjective, and everyone is entitled to their opinion there. BUT leave "value" out of it. If you're bringing value into the equation you'll never buy a BMW. Or a Mercedes, or an Audi, Lexus, whatever. No one buys a premium car for "value" except when comparing it to similar vehicles. In the X6's case though there really aren't any similar vehicles to compare it to. You want "value"? You can get a new Altima with 270 or so hp, bluetooth, keyless start, sat radio, nav with traffic monitoring, etc. for under $30k. You can get a loaded Avalon that does everything the LS does except park itself and recline the rear seats for $40k less. That's "value". The X6 is a niche vehicle they'll make only so many of a year, and they'll sell because they're a niche vehicle they're only making so many of a year. If Benz can sell the insanely overpriced Gelandenwagen (aka G class) here and Infiniti can slap a new badge on the Nissan Armada and call it a QX56, BMW can sell the X6. "Value" isn't part of the equation.

I thought the X6 was supposed to be larger than the X5? It looks smaller. And that an ugly rear drop by the way.

no, it's always been touted as a smaller, sleeker, sportier SUV.

too bad we haven't seen any really good shots of it yet...

I love BMW's. I am really looking forward to this being unveiled.

I can see some logic in it. Most AWD premium vehicles are NOT used off-road EVER. Also most X5 owners I know don't even need the space they would get in a saloon car, let alone an SAV/SUV. Yet people still buy them!

So, given that people do want to buy big, expensive, bouncy, over-priced, "look-down-on-other-people" vehicles... why not make one that doesn't pretend to be suited to the SUV/SAV role, it is what it is... its an X5 for people that can't be bothered to pretend they need load space or practiality..

It's an interesting vehicle, and I look forward to seeing the pricing and sales forecast as much as I am the actual car.

i keep seeing X5's without tinted windows, look at that pic, if you're going to purchase an X5 GET PRIVACY GLASS on it, cops won't be able to see inside the car and accuse you of not wearing your seatbelt. just a tip...
