BMW cancels X7 luxury SUV
It was reported in August that BMW had canceled plans for a new full-size SUV positioned above the current X5 and X6 to take on rivals like the Range Rover and Mercedes Benz GL.

The carmaker’s CEO Norbert Reithofer has now confirmed that development of the luxury SUV, which was to be called the X7, has been discontinued in favor of a range of compact crossover vehicles as well as the introduction of more efficient diesel models in North America.

I wish BMW would cancel plans to keep employing the design team behind the X1.

This is a mistake, just look how well X6 did. Don't they realize BMW buyers are oblivious to the current economic market? They'll lease one even if it goes beyond their financial means... if the badge is there, it's sold!

Everyone saw this coming. As long as they make an all wheel drive 7, they aren't going to loose anyone...

I would think a closer competitor than a Range Rover would be the Escalade and GL. The RR to me is not large enough against the others.

I dont like SUVs but they should make a top of the range with a big gas and diesel engine as options.

good idea bmw. would have been a hit if they implemented their activehybrid technology in that car. in fact, all bmws should come with a hybrid option

Is it possible to keep the news current by any chance? That's why it is called "news" not "olds"
