BMW expects half of X6 sales to come from US, hybrid X6 coming in 2009
BMW is expecting the U.S. to be the biggest market for its upcoming X6 crossover despite the high fuel prices. BMW board member for corporate and brand development said that the company is expecting half of the annual production volume to come from the U.S.

Seeing has BMW plans to build 40,000 units of the X6 annually, U.S. is expected to eat up 20,000 of the production run. German and UK together will account for about 10 percent. Eichiner said he doesn’t think that gas prices will have a major impact on the X6.

where did you get that info from? I work for BMW and it is known that BMW is only bringing 8800 units to the US in the 1st year of Production & that inclueds both the 6 cyl & V8. BMW will be ramping up the X5 diesel in the fall.

Yes it is ... but of the production slotted for the US, only 8800 units are going to be sold here ...

(kinda off subject) Why is Audi pulling all of their proposed hybrid models for the states but BMW seems to be sticking with bringing them here?

riiiiiiight. More likely? Audi sells a million cars a year but compared to the rest of the brands a much smaller percentage come from the U.S., which is realistically the only place a gas hybrid would sell (the rest of the wold prefers diesels). It's hard to justify creating a hybrid that no one outside the U.S. would buy in a market you're soft in, especially with a weak exchange rate, versus a diesel that could sell here and everywhere else. Comparatively speaking BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus sell a lot of cars in the U.S., so coming up hybrids makes more sense for them (especially Lexus, who sells almost all their cars in the U.S.).
