BMW gets serious about the upcoming Gran Turismo
BMW CEO, Norbert Reithofer, has already confirmed that the company will be producing a four-door Gran Turismo model based on the CS Concept that debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show. After that we haven't heard much about what’s going on with the development of the car.

The Bavarian automaker has yet to release any official specs or technical details and probably won’t do so until mid-2008. However, a report has popped up today stating that...

Though it won't be available until (probably) 2010?

No Offense, but are you part of a 'certain' individual's ' forum personality repertoire?

No one would post something so 'flame inducing' if they weren't IMO, and your account is very new (1st documented post - 12/19/2007 7:08:44 AM), and you seem rather bent on creating 'issues' with what you have posted thus far... Hmmm?

At least this car doesn't look like it has a squid growing out of a fish mouth.

I find this 'concept'...

Elegant, Modern and a step in the right direction for BMW.

When I first saw pictures of this concept, I wrote it off as an abomination. But as of late, it's kind of grown on me.....although, I still can't get over those intakes on the front bumper...HIDEOUS!!!

R U kidding ??????

Check out some Motorama slides from the Fifties, compare those interiors to the BMW dashboard sans the steering wheel. When was the last time you saw a lighted chrome dials in a car ? 1962 ? This freak even has a sliding lever looking whatever - to adjust the fan speed maybe.

Audi design the most luxurious looking interiors, however the S-Class is truly hard to beat these days. These are forward-looking, modern architect level masterpieces. This BMW interior is a homage to GM 1955. At best.

This is going to be a great auto- anxious to see how it finaly turns out. Love the return to the shark-like front end, it has tremendous road presence.

With the Panarama and Rapide entering this segment it is going be an interesting and competitive market to follow

So, what you're trying to say is that the front-end styling on this concept doesn't appeal to you...

Yet another unattractive car from BMW. Oh well.

Remember the days when BMW could do no wrong? I have 3 BWMs in my garage from that era, and I love 'em all. But BMW hasn't made anything pretty enough to attract me in years. Or reliable enough.

There are those who will buy an unattractive car that breaks down frequently, and that has a chincy-looking interior, or an irrational user-interfaces (signal lights that, once actuated, turn off only when the computer says so, or iDrive), because the car drives really well at the limits. I'm not one of them.

I'm willing to give up a little bit of the "ultimate drive" in order to get a lot more in the way of a better all-around car. But that's just me. And BMW keeps selling record numbers to folks whose values are different than mine.

You know, you are right. Maybe I am getting old and slow and live in the past but the current (and future) models are frankly scary to me. To be fair, there are styling elements that are appealing, but just next to them there are others that are putting me off. BMW has lost focus and it appears to no longer understand what made their vehicles so good. It is sad that there isn't really anything else out there that can substitute the ultimate DRIVING machine.

re: vdiv - 12/21/2007 11:20:31 AM

Actually, according to my research, BMW is *maintaining* its focus. It's just that you and I no longer match the target audience. BMW has always appealed to the youger, performance-oriented driver. BMW looks a decade ahead, and plans for it. When they made the bold move to Bangle-lize their styling, they polarized their audience, and alienated a lot of the "old faithful" who, according to BMW, are not going to carry them into the next decade anyway.

So while many folks, like me, in their late 40s are cringing at BMW's styling language, lots of folks in their 30s like it. And as disappointed as I am that BMW no longer makes cars that appeal to me, their record units sales and consistent profitability show that they are doing what's right for BMW, the brand. They have attracted a whole new audience in such numbers, that it more than offsets the number of "old schooolers" (like me) who are no longer attracted to BMW cars.
