Continuing their strategy in developing smaller, more efficient cars, BMW has just announced the launch of their most fuel efficient and least polluting vehicle: BMW 116d.

The 116d will be placed below the 118d, which was named the World Green Car of the Year back in March 2008. The 116d shows some impressive figures, a combined consumption of 64.2mpg and a CO2 emissions figure of 118g/km.

Available in both three- and five-door, the BMW 116d is powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel engine outputting 116hp and 260Nm of torque from 1,750rmp. Despite the small engine, the 116d runs from 0-62 in 10.2 seconds. Top speed? 125mph.
