BMW launching 12 new models by 2011 - full details
The recent introduction of the new 1-series Coupe and Cabrio and the reveal of the segment starting X6 ‘Sport Activity Vehicle’ is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of new models for BMW. As outlined in its official future strategy document released in late September, BMW is targeting vehicle sales of 1.8 million units by 2012 and to do so it’s planning a host of new model launches over the coming years.

According to a report by AutoZeitung, BMW will launch 12 new models between now and 2011 starting with a new entry level minicar. The new model will be a small three-door four seater with FWD and measure just 3.8m in length. It will feature the full gamut of BMW EfficientDynamics technology including brake energy recovery and engine stop-start features. Powertrains will include both petrol and diesel motors as well as a hybrid option and possibly a plug-in hybrid model with a range of 100km. Launch date for the car is 2011.

In 2010 production of the new Mini Colorado SUV should start at a factory in Leipzig. Engines will include both petrol and diesel units with power ranging from 120 to 175hp.

Next year will see sales of the 1-series Cabrio start as well as the arrival of the next-generation 7-series. The new saloon will feature for the first time options for AWD, pneumatic air suspension and a hybrid model.

The next-generation 5-series won’t arrive until 2010 but

lol. lexus lauches a new RX and you think it's like christ coming down to earth. BMW announces a dozen new models and you yawn.

try not to fall asleep behind the wheel of your GS.

don't forget that BMW outsells everyone (mercedes, bmw, lexus, audi) in passenger cars globally and in the US.

i wonder what they'll call the minicar...

1/2-15i ;)

useless would be the Mini Colorado...the clubman is already disgusting. a mini is a MINI...dunno why they just cant' improve on the current mini s.

the new 7-series should be nice, i am interested in the results of the hybrid model, and entry into the hybrid segment.

1-series will sell due to a cost factor (less than a 3-series, entry level buyers), but is still overpriced from the estimates in my opinion. bmw could have diminished any competition by having the 135i start around 30-32k.

we'll have to wait and see...hopefully the 5-series will look as good as the e39 did.

They should put a 1.8 liter turbo on the Mini S.

wow...that's a hell of a lot of new models. more fun!

particularly looking forward to the new diesels. i'd seriously consider either a 5-series or x5 diesel. would be the best combination of MPG and performance offered to date.

not sure at the moment. Most likely it will be the 335 diesel in sedan form. No news on a coupe diesel version. These vehicles will blow the competition away.

NO, it's goodbye BMW if they start making FWD vehicles. Also, BMW should stop ripping off Canadians and adjust their prices to those in effect in the U.S.

Hey kraut master, just a few years ago during WWII the Devine Wind or Kamikazes or the Imperial Army caused the deaths of 19,605,000 Chinese people.

What say you?

that's great! but the X6 is hardly a "segment starting" vehicle. see FX. and the introduction of the X6 will increase competition of sport-oriented SUVs.

i do like that mini will intro an SUV. the brand needs to diversify in order to remain competitive among vehicles of that general size. see chevy, scion, honda, nissan, etc...and that's just the competition in the US market alone. in Europe & UK, you've got the Fiat 500 other fairly stable competitors that can easily gain market share. many fans hated that bmw sold an SUV...and look where that got them.

BMW's are already way too common, this can only make them even less desireable...

I bet not even one of these twelve new cars will be a good looking car, continuing on with their their current range!

I'm worried, I know the new Z4 has only been seen with Camo still in place but I don't think it's going to be that hot. I love the current models shape but have never been a fan of the front end, the new one looks like it might be worse.

I love the 1 series, I don't think it's dragging down the image of the company. An even smaller car might be risky, they will have to watch quality doesn't slip too far if they are making it to a tighter budget.. I remember how bad the E36 316ti was when it first came out! Although they'll probably end up calling it an E1 or something dull like that, I think they should use the old Isetta name again! :) Make it kinda funky.

I wish they'd hurry up and build a mid-engined super car, I just can't unerstand why they don't!? Use the M6's V10, get designworks USA to make it good looking, stick it in the BMWSauberF1 wind tunnel and get their engineers to sort out the suspension, and bish bosh bash, a supercar!
