BMW offering in-car internet
Chrysler may end up being the first to market with an in-car internet solution, but BMW’s ConnectedDrive, announced in advance of this year’s Geneva Motor Show, is the first to bring us video of the system in action.

An interesting point covered in the videos is that the internet service is routed through BMW proxies - meaning both that no anti-virus or other protective measures are needed.

It's Edge Technology. So it's about the same speed as T-Mobile Internet which is pretty slow...

But this is Great. Great job BMW...

There will probably be a bunch of preprogrammed favorites you can quick select, and I'd imagine there'll be voice recognition as well. And I'm sure BMW will disable the ability to use the system for the driver when the vehicle is in motion (i.e. only rear seat iDrive equipped vehicles or front seat passengers with cars equipped with the "dual pixel" displays will be able to use it while the car is moving).

Is the sky ever not falling for you, Chicken Little? You must lead a sad life.

Imagine if Lexus had introduced this. Everyone knows that the haters would all be saying how Lexus is not about driving, blah blah blah, but since this is BMW, it's OK! Don't even tell me otherwise, you all know it.

and I imagine all the Lexus fanboys would be talking about how it's the greatest invention on earth and how Lexus is the king of innovation and how German manufacters and fans can suck on their sweaty balls and kneel before the altar of all things Lexus. It works both ways, and you know it.

As a BMW fan I personally could care less about this feature. However, for everyone bringing up the possibility of accidents, I'm pretty sure BMW will do the same thing they do in Europe for vehicles equipped with factory TV tuners -- the feature won't operate while the vehicle is in motion, except for rear seat occupants, or the front passenger if they do in fact implement that "dual pixel" screen that allows the driver and passenger to see two different things on one screen.

SO many accidents. Hopefully you will be able to say or spell out websites. The I drive cursor looks faster though.

I love in the first video the guy emphasizes the fact that you can look at ANY website. I know what he's thinking!

Awesome if used safely and properly though.
