BMW officially welcomes the iPhone
It's the kind of innovative approach you would expect from BMW.

In 2004, BMW was the first to integrate the iPod into BMW vehicles and have customers take full control of their music on the road. So it seemed only logical that BMW be among the first to ensure iPhone owners have the same ability to enjoy their music, plus the added benefits of Bluetooth® hands-free calling across our model line. We are pleased to announce that BMW owners can use their iPhone in this way from day one.

Please see the detailed compatibility information below.

Copyright © 2007 Apple Inc. All rights reserved. Apple, the Apple logo, iPod and iPhone are trademarks or registered trademarks of Apple Inc.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY:

The iPhone functions with BMW vehicles equipped with BMW Assist with Bluetooth® handsfree-calling as of the date of testing and meets or exceeds minimum standards established by BMW of North America ("BMW"). This is not a warranty for phone performance or functionality. BMW makes no guarantees or warranties as to the performance of any phone while connected to your BMW via Bluetooth® Wireless Technology. Furthermore, software releases by BMW, the phone supplier or the wireless carrier dated after testing might alter compatibility results.

Access to the iPod (or the iPod application of the iPhone) via the vehicle controls and central information or radio display is only possible on cars equipped with iPod/USB interface. The iPod/USB interface is available on 3 and 5 Series with 03/07 production, the X5 with 04/07 production and the 6 Series with 09/07 production date. Further details will be available shortly. In the meantime please contact BMW of North America’s Customer Relations Department at 1-800-831-1117 for further details

Of course BMW was first--they are the most innovative car company on the planet--and I dont mean just cars. Their manufacturing capability and flexibility is regarded as the best in the automotive world.

All car companies are the most innovative car company in the world in their own rights. You can't say specifically that a BMW is the MOST innovative car company, period.

So, if a Lexus LS600 comesout with the world's first 8-speed transmission, hybrid V8, self-parallel guidance, etc..its not innovative to you? But what you are saying is that if a BMW has a $500 ipod that an apple has designed and built..BMW is the most innovative car company in the planet as you've wrote? Let's get real here.

There's nothing new about an 8 speed tranny and a hybrid system.

Self parking is for those slacka$$es that refuse to park.

nice homer .. innovative for function. Lets be honest, the self-park idea, although good and innovative, is not very realistic in regards to use. I live in Chicago and the chance of coming across a parking space big enough to use the feature is about 1 in a million. I think that the I-phone intergration for BMW is a Huge statement. This I-phone is going to be a huge thing in the communication business. What I am surprised at, is that Lexus didnt forsee this.

BMW4me4ever .. First, its not I-phone..it is iphone. Secondly, I'm being honest.

I live in Houston, Tx and chance of coming across a parking space big enough to use this innovative self-parallel parking is 1 in 10! Their is a segments of lines on the pavement to let folks know where each car should be properly parked.

iphone is a phone w/added features (albeit it has a heck of alot more memories) and nothing more special. My 7 years old cellphone with duct-tapes around it does samething! Just no video or camera but let's get real here..do you truely believe a iphone will change minds of a car buyers??? German car fans always bragg about the magical feel of German car superiority and engineering and yada yaday til your breath runs out ... but then here is iphone..and suddenly its now the world's most innovative. Lexus don't need this crap b/c it already uses most excellent voice recognition system that has been proven since the previous LS460, LS 400 for past decade. Get your information straight.

You stated: "There's nothing new about an 8 speed tranny", <------if 8 speed trainyee was installed on a Audi, you be screaming a different tone.

You stated: "Hybrid is nothing new", <----Neither is an Diesel engine you would bend-over backwards to scream, how new and improved everything about them are.

You stated, "Self parking is for those slacka$$es that refuse to park". <------lets both be honest. This feature whether you like it or not has stirred many souls of folks who watched that TV commercial where the car parks between the triangulary stacked up wine glasses very neatly as the driver takes his hands off the steering wheel and car takes over as if it comes alive. This has made a huge statement, period. You scream about a BMW having an apple designed and built iphone as somesort of tribute and scream innovativeness to BMW as other guy wrote..but in all honesty..the self-parking guidance system is here to stay and if 1 person likes this feature and would buy Lexus again for this 1 feature..then its a success for Lexus b/c they truely do build cars to please them.

BMW4me4ever,you stated, "I am surprised at, is that Lexus didnt forsee this". <-----------A slimy attempt to slime Lexus's name but a bad one at that.

Let's try this one shall we in a reflection:

"I am surprised at,is that BMW didnt forsee this". <------The Toyota/Lexus stock market capitalization is $240 billion - higher than that of GM, Ford, Daimler Chrysler, Honda and Nissan combined".

get your information straight.

nice ... my facts are str8. just because you disregard the iphone as not being innovative, then that is your issue. No your 7 year old cellphone does not do the same thing.

I used to live in Dallas, Tx and there is still no usefull place you can park the car at. Have you tried it? I have. It requires 6 ft of extra space to park the car. The odd chance that you are going to be able to use the feature is so small, that the innovation of the feature is not a benefit at all. In regards to innovation, BMW and Mercedes lead the pack. They have either developed or introduced some of the most innovative safety systems, suspensions, drivetrains, technology features in the history of the automobile. It you dispute that, then you are ignorant. Lexus builds a great car, but it is hardly that innovative. Yes you have the Hybrid in a V8, moronic self parking feature, 8-speed transimission and a few others. What about design? What innovative design has Lexus developed in the last 5 years that revolutionized anything. Take the LS, it is a carbon copy of the side profile of a 7-series. The Es is based off the camry. The IS isnt that innovative either. The only really unique design that lexus has come up with was the SC300/400 & SC430 ... The xenon lights and led tailights were copies from BMW & AUDI ... From an exterior design aspect, Lexus is not innovative. That is their style. next please

Wrong, get your information straight. I did NOT say iphone was not innovative. Read again and quiver. My 7 year old phone w/a duct tapes does samething yes..its a phone isn't it? (I did say without a video or phone)

Dallas isn't Houston, Tx so its different..1 place is not like the rest. In regards to innovation, as, I have stated..each car company has specialization that they each excell at. Meaning one brand of car company does not lead anything. Developing and introducing in the past does not mean that they are stil and always will be the most innovative car company in the world. Take a look at a Cadillac who has done same w/innovations in the by-gone era with so many inventions and innovations. Do you see a Cadillac synonym with innovation today? The design of Lexus is evolutionary b/c it offers the lowest co-effiecient drag to reduce wind noise and to increase MPG. If you so love the design of BMW or Mercs, and if Lexus creates one to compete within this category, so it must learn to adopt and assimulate and improve upon. Yes, the ES is based off the Camry to save production costs and effieciency of the manufacturing, were you born in 20's or something? The Xenon lights are not copied from BMW or Audi. Its complete Lexus. The shape of the headlight was designed by a Japanese guy who got inspiration from a drinking glass(?) and how many German cars have xenon lights on a production models that directly challenges a Lexus LS600 from Mercs, BMW or Audi? Zero.

Again get your information straight BMW4me4ever.

I didn't say its capitalization is $240 billion - higher than GM, Ford and Daimler-Chrysler! What, I clearly stated was that, "`its higher that that of GM, Ford, Daimler Chrysler, Honda and Nissan combined".

in response to your smartypants comment about your so almighty Apple's iphone integration to a BMW and saying, "I am surprised at,is that BMW didnt forsee this".

Nice you are an idiot .. HID's were first introduced in 1991 on a BMW 7-series ...High-intensity discharge systems were introduced in 1991's BMW 7-series. European and Japanese markets rapidly came to prefer HID headlamps, which have as much as 50% market share in those markets, but the technology was slow to be adopted in North America. 1996's Lincoln Mark VIII was an early American effort at HIDs; it was also the first and only car with DC HIDs.... Now that we have cleared that up ... You are pretty ignorant if you think that the intergration with the Apple I-phone isnt important. It basically is putting apple back in the forefront in the telecommunication field ... The I-phone is significant in what it can do to make things easier for the workforce. Look how the Blackberry revoulutionized the cell phone industry. Just because you like the stoneage in cell phone communication is your business. For Lexus not too have an adapter on their new Technology advanced LS600H is ridiculous. Especially since they new about this new way of communication years in advance.

In regards to Lexus design, yes it is evolutionary and that is all it is. There is nothing unique. I understand that way of thinking cause it is safe. That is why Lexus will never be able to compete in the performance car segment. Their way of thinking is to throw on some body kits and a big engine. Whipdee do. Infiniti has been trying that for years to compete with the 3-series. Guess what it didnt work. It wont work with Lexus. Do you know how hard it is to get a car with near 50/50 weight balance and the cost to do so? The so called magic feel, that alot of BMW owners and magazines claim is due to chassis, weight distribution, transmission ... The best sports cars in the world are the ones with the best balance. That is innovation.

When is the last time any Lexus designer won the prestigious adn recognizable Designer of the Year Award. Yep so much for innovation. I believe BMW, Audi, Mercedes, porsche have won Engine of the year award. When is the last time Lexus won? yep innovation at its best ... pretensioning seatbelts revolutionized the safety industry and were 1st intorduced by Mercedes in 1981 .. that is innovation. something that changed the auto industry .... self parking is not innovation ...

LOL what next? apple makes the iprinter, bmw comes out with iprinter integration! omgz car innovation! you can now print in your car!

I'm with you gsh23.

I'm so sick and tired of BMW fans scream innovations and downplaying everyone else.

Just read this propaganda, "Of course BMW was first--they are the most innovative car company on the planet" and this is over an iphone. Some are cheering iphone while spelling it with I-Phone as in BMW4me4ever's case.

Now, I own a piece of shit 7 years old phone w/a duct tape around it and battery life lasts about 30 minutes but the point, I'm trying to make is...Apple's iphone on a BMW shouldn't make all these BMW fans dancing with their hula dancing skirts thinking its another quick success when it hasn't even been out yet. Damn iphone just came out yesterday. Place your hula dancing skirts back inside your drawer folks.

having your iphone integrated into a bmw with idrive completely renders any of the iphones innovations useless. and actually that would only be one thing, the multitouch function screen. game over. bmw loses.

I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence or not (Un-sure but I believe the i-drive system is running on IBM software), but the i-pod/i-phone technologies & name are very similar to BMW’s i-drive.
