BMW’s Future: New 5-Series and X3 by 2011, redesigned 3-Series in 2012
The BMW 1-Series is finally coming to our highways. The baby BMW goes on sale in the United States in spring of 2008, with pricing to be announced closer to launch date. As BMW’s models get bigger and pricier, BMW hopes that the 1-Series will give frugal buyers a reason to get inside an Ultimate Driving Machine.
Another important model for BMW next year is the X6 Crossover. The X6 hopes to compete with Mercedes-Benz’s R-Class with an odd looking slanting roofline. But instead of designing it closer to minivan as Mercedes, BMW went the route of its SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle).

Nice 135i.
The X3 needs to be redesigned before that. BMW doesn't want to be late- by 2011 we'll not only have the Acura RDX and Land Rover LR2, but obviously the Infiniti EX35, the Audi Q5, Volvo XC50 and Mercedes-Benz GLK. Hurry up!

acura cant give away the rdx, hopefully the infiniti will fair better. i think the biggest threats to the good selling x3 is the glk, and the q5. especially the glk

They aren't replacing the 7 series til 2011?!?!
That's a BAD move. That thing is an eyesore. And what's with the 09/2010 facelift of the brand new X5?...something's fishy.

7 sells quite well. so many disagree with you.
2007 was the first year for new X5. refresh after 3 years is pretty standard in the automotive world. no?

The point is, 2009 for a 2007 car (that came out in 07) seems quick. and I think most would agree with me, the S550 and A8 storm the 7 series like no one's business.

i agree it does seem quick, but how about, though it wasnt really a refresh, but in 2006 BMW had the 325i sedan and the 330i sedan which the following year led BMW to introducing the 328i and 335i engines. At any rate, that is considered a refresh, am i right?

I call bullshit on the article. The 5-series and 7-series are supposed to get redesigned sometime in 2008. And the 6-series the year after.

BMW is going down the crapper. Such ugly designs, poor handling (compared to Lexus) and mediocre quality. Why buy a BMW when you can have a Lexus for less and with more options?

enthusiastx11,
I agree. Everything this guy posts is a ridiculous lie. Lexus are extremely boring to drive compared with a BMW. Anyone whos ever driven a BMW knows that.

Many of these dates are really off...7er will be introduced at frankfurt next fall to ship in '09...and the 5er will be right after that as a 2010....that site prints alot of erroneous filler

BMW 135i will be a valid competitor to the Porsche Cayman S in performance and handling - bonus: thousands $$$$ less and 2 seats in the rear for little people.

No 5-series redesign until 2011?! Bogus! But w/e. Peyton/18, I'm sure they will release a new 7-series before that, they already have prototypes doing extreme weather testing in Death Valley and have been spotted on the 'Ring so I'm guessing a late 2009 release as the latest.

The 1-series is much appreciated, a smaller, lighter BMW. But can we all agree the X6 is off the plot?

I'm not sure about this article, BMW usually have 7 year product cycles. The 7-series should be replaced by September next year, and the 5-series by September 2009.
