BMW's first hybrid: X6 Active Hybrid
In addition to the new X6 Concept, BMW is also presenting a modular two-mode hybrid version of the car dubbed the X6 Active Hybrid. The concept is running a new BMW drivetrain that integrates the batteries, electronics systems and power inverter all within the transmission. Compared with the non-hybrid model, the new Active Hybrid is said to improve fuel-economy by up to 20%. Read Article

so now that bmw is in to hybrids along with mb they must be a great technology right german fanboys?

no offence to bmw and mb they are stepping in the right direction and because they have great diesel tech it will be a nice combonation if they bring it to the market. the power of an electric battery plus the power of a deisel! along with turbo chargers etc. that they use these days. now that is power.

great job bmw.

Lexus should be very worried since now they have some competition in the luxury hybrid market. im worried aswell because lex deisels are no match for the german ones but there hybrid tech is.

Lexus only uses hybrids for more power but to maintain the regular fuel economy. The germans will get more power along with better fuel economy since there deisels are better at fuel economy (not emissions in most cases)than the lexus gasoline cars. lexus really has to step up there game if they want to take down bwm and mb

i heard that toyota was teaming up with isuzu for deisel engines does anyone know if they are?
cause that might be there only hope in the environment wars.

They shouldn't be called environment "wars." This should be for benefiting the consumer, not one-upmanship.

Lexus would be worried if Mercedes and BMW Hybrid systems worked properly. However, these will be first generation systems that I am afraid will likely have
reliability problems, based on their history. The Lexus sytems are much further along both technically (drivetrain, batteries, reliability) and cost wise.
If Lexus wants to go into deisel, it will be much easier to perfect and implement simply because the technology has been around so long.

I wonder if they are starting from scratch or if they are purchasing the Hybrid tech like Ford has done. If it's a scratch issue than it's possible that they may have issues but if it's purchased, I think reliability will be there without any problems

but toyota didn't give there best hybrid tech to ford they gave some second class thing. it has to operate in electric-gas or gas only regular toyota hybrids are full hybrids only electric, electric-gas, and gas
